340 Invader For Sale

I am looking to sell my 340 invader as I'm planning on moving down south in the U.S. for good.
It is located in Essex County just outside of Windsor Ontario.
I figured I would post it here first where it might be more appreciated before I tried Kijiji.

The sled is very clean and in excellent operating condition and in fair cosmetic condition. The suspension has been rebuilt with all new cross shafts, some nos parts and custom made brackets and grease fittings installed, the track is usable .
Belly pan has a crack on bottom but has been repaired, seat is not perfect with one small tare and a small puncture that had been repaired when I purchased it.Crank seals replaced two seasons ago along with all the bearings I could get to.Water pump mechanical seal, gasket and bearings replaced. All bushings and tie rod ends in steering system replaced and new ski shocks.Drive and driven clutch cleaned and rebuilt last season.Fuel pump and carbs rebuilt(all new jets and needles).I recently installed a starter, battery box,new regulator and new battery.I have two nos pistons, three sets of nos rings,a set of seals and a new sleeved cylinder that will be going with it along with the ownership.I would like to get $700 for it but that price is not set in stone.

John.

Pictures can be viewed on photobucket --> link

Has Anyone on This Forum Ever Disassembled

The snow is gone - that is if you count the 4 days that we had snow this winter as having snow at all - and the warm weather is coming. So we have to get the boat ready for the lake. Well, we are having a problem with our Mercruiser Alpha One drive unit. The boat as a whole has issues, none of which are insurmountable, just a few more than I really want to have at any one time.

But my problem right now is that the shift shaft coupler is not coupled, and is likely broken. The manual has pretty good information on the shift shaft itself, but not on the coupler and how to deal with it. So I am asking if anyone knows anything about replacing the shift shaft coupler.

In the attached photo it is hard to see but the bottom portion (black) is completely behind and about 90 degrees opposed to the top portion (stainless). So the two are currently jamming each other and the shift cable thinks it is in forward however the propeller is actually in neutral.

Mark

Channell buys an Interceptor #236

Extra Extra read all about it.

I am unsure how to feel. Jealous, excited, spurred from thoughts of competition are a couple of thoughts.

Today was the year end banquet and points series awards for Colorado's XMR Snowcross/ Vintage members. It is a huge pleasure to have opportunity in participating in these events. Endless thanks for all that aid coordination's it is a monumental undertaking that is only now better understood from my novice racing perceptive.

Well guess who made the trip to Craig Co? There was some (sounded like) vicious rumor Gregg had an Interceptor loaded up in the back of his truck, in the parking lot. Of course I figured my friends were adding to the excitement of next years anticipated races, cheap talk and bantering. The more I get to know Gregg the more I am humbled with his humor and spirit of competition. Presenting him with this obvious rumor he shook my hand and gave a little snicker and appreciable smile. Low and behold under the sled cover in the back of his truck the sled was parked.

The sled was clean registering 550 miles on the odometer. Worthy of remarking, it was pretty. Yes, I did ask if he had intention for putting it on the race track this coming year. It is all cheap talk until it makes an event idling on the line. Who will be advantaged on the track? Is a longer 121 1.5 paddle track best? Will my youth (not that much) play some handicap or his stretched leathers?

This upcoming year is going to be fun to say the least. In my area; now I am aware there are at least two Interceptors (not that I own one) but yet two, Gregg's and a Dick (last name excapes me) in Wyoming. In the moments re-read Gregg's and Richard however my introduction was to Dick. Semantics caution try to see more good in the world than bad.

And that is late night talking with Mark.

I have a 1980 340 Invader. It has given me lots of grief but I tend to be on the stubborn side (just ask my wife) and I won't give up on it.

When I got it 2 years ago it had sat inside for 7 years.

I have resealed the motor, cleaned the carbs umpteen times. Even have tried three different sets of carbs and still the same issues

It is hard to start. Fires but will not stay running. Floods really easy. If I can get it started it idles nice.

When I'm trying to ride it it is super boggy. It runs very rich and will load up on gas when your riding it, if I play with the thottle alot sometimes it will kick in and go good for a while till it starts loading up on gas again.

It seems to be running on both cylinders. Exhaust manifold is about the same temp on both sides

It has a new fuel pump. No gas in the impulse tube.

needle and seats seal well,
Carbs set to factory specks.

After trying the third set of carbs, I'm wondering if it is ignition related.

Has anyone ever had a similar problem?
I'm wondering about CDI , Kill switch, or stator.

Has anyone had similar problems?

Thanks
Lloyd

So most of you know I have had my Expedition forever... and some of the fun I have had with it. Last night, THE KIDD came home around 3 AM and told me it wouldn't shift into reverse. In the morning I took a look and decided to try changing the trans fluid. It came out the color of Black Cherry and had the looks of a pearl luminescence. At the bottom of the drain pan were multiple flakes of metal...

Needless to say a 1999 Expedition with 279,000 miles does not have much value, and even less when it needs a $1800 transmission. SO... the decision is made. it will not be around any longer, and the duty of trailer pulling will be passed down to either the wife's Mountaineer (5.0l motor) or to the 85 GMC Jimmy.
When you can't get the right gear????

You make one.

Couldn't fing the 40T gear I wanted for the sled except the one that was on Ebay for $150 (pretty funny)

So you just take a 39T and a Yamaha 40T HYVO gear put them in a press, sprinkle on some magic dust, and there it is, (or have a friend with a machine shop and a precision grinder) so then you could use 13 wide HYVO chain and never worry about a chain ever.

So we took the Interceptor out and this time at 35degrees and the same jetting it only ran 103 which was expected, If I have time later I'm gonna change gears and try it again

Invader Question

I guess I am cheating

I am a John Deere guy and have always appreciated the Kawasaki sleds because of the connection to JD. I have a couple of 80's Liquifires. I came across a 1979 Invader that a Artic Cat guy picked up in a swap. I saw that it had dual pipes and the price was $250, so I could not pass it up. They sled is 100% complete and original. It looks like it has been stored inside all it's life and has 1700 miles on it.

My question is this. The sled has twin pipes, everything else looks normal. I could not find any info online regarding an LTD version in 1979. The sleds build date is 1978, so I am assuming this is a 1979 Model year. Did Kawasaki make a twin pipe version in 1979 or could this be a newer motor dropped in an older sled. Thanks for your input!

80 440 Invader

I finally bought my first Kawasaki that is not a parts sled. My 1980 440 Invader runs like a top and is in pretty good shape. Unfortunately the dash is cracked, the handle on the rear seat door is broke mostly off, the airbox is missing, and it has a 4" crack on the pan that someone crudely repaired. Someone put ski spreader on and the shocks are missing but I have what I need from my parts sleds. It does have a nice low clear windshield. Now being a JD guy new to the Kawasaki sleds I have a question. Where the seats heat formed with no stitching like the Deeres? It looks like the original seat and it's that type. It's not bad and it's not great either.

Thanks Duane

Excellent source for water pump repair!

Some of you may remember (and have helped with!) my leaking water pump woes on my '79 Invader 440.

Well I have finally found a solution, with the help of Mark (Home for Old Sleds). As we all know the newest NOS parts you'll find for one of these beasties is likely going on 30 years old at this point. That being said, even if you were to find a NOS water pump (which I'm sure would be $$$) There's no real guarantee that the seals will still be good in it. I bought a used pump for my sled on a gamble and lost, turned out to leak as bad or worse than the pump already on my sled.

I hadn't even thought of a water pump rebuilder until Mark did some searching and suggested I try Flying Dutchman Water pumps: http://www.fdrbp.com/ . Tony has my water pump now and says he'll have no trouble making a great pump out of it. He had the seals all in stock and had to order bearings, but said he'd have no problem at all making it as good as new (or possibly better)!

I have no idea how much demand there is for good water pumps, but if anyone has a need for a good rebuild it sounds like Tony is the man for it! He said he really enjoys being able to help out with small niche markets like this, as there isn't a huge demand for these things and there is really no good way to get a new unit. At any rate he's a great guy to deal with, so if anyone needs a Kawi water pump freshened up, send it his way, I'm sure he'll appreciate it!

I may actually have him rebuild my 2nd pump once I get this one back, then I'll have a spare, or one to sell and help someone get their Kawi back up and running again!

Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to share what I thought was exciting and good news!

-Paul
