Invader 340 head swap
« on: September 08, 2015, 08:10:20 AM »
I have a Kawasaki invader 340 engine and the top ends are burnt down. I want to know if invader 440 cylenders will bolt in to the 340 bottom end. Thanks

Welcome!   Yessir....the bottom ends for the 340 and 440 Invaders were identical.
You would need the 440 cylinders, heads and a set of pistons.
Carbs were bigger with the 440, VM-36's vs. VM-32's on the 340.
Rubber airbox inserts that slipped over the inlet side of the carbs would need to be changed to the larger size...if you use the stock airbox.
Exhaust Y-pipe and tuned muffler were identical to both the 340 and 440.
Then, you would have to add some weight to the drive clutch ramps to get best performance...and possibly a gearing change in the chaincase.
75 SnoJet Astro SS, 79 Kawasaki Invader 440 (two of them), 81 Scorpion Sidewinder, 82 Blizzard 9500, 83 Yamaha Vmax 540, 97 MXZ 670....and holding...for now.

Thanks rminier! I didn't want to spend the money for the complete top ends to find out they wouldn't work. I see it's easier to get invader 440 parts than to get invader 340 parts.

I have good used top ends for both the 440 and 340 Invaders.  I believe I have everything you would need to make the 340 to 440 swap to.  Let me know if you need anything.  :)

You might consider keeping your Invader as a 340. There is certainly nothing wrong with those sleds, as several owners on here can attest.
I took a quick peek at some very common suppliers to the industry...and you are right in saying that the parts availability for the 340 is more scarce than the 440.
As gixxer mentioned, you can find some good replacement cylinders.
Are your cylinder heads in good shape? I would be surprised if 1 or both aren't still OK....even if not, you can get those from us on here.
You would just have to find a couple pistons, then...again, folks on here can help.
Keeping it as a 340 would eliminate the hassle of finding different carbs, different clutch weights, different gears, etc....and allow you to save your hard earned money to devote to new crank seals, new fuel lines and filter, etc. etc. 8) ;D
