1979 440 intuder crank seals

 What are the common symptoms of leaking crank seals.

Melted pistons and scorched cylinders.. low compression on one side, hard starting, no fuel from fuel pump, poorly running... can run better when using primer or choke,  just to list a few.  Best to just change them and be done with it.

Thanks Jim it is a little hard starting but just to be on the safe side I am in the process of changing the seals.

Seals have been changed and I think someone had changed them before, they seemed in pretty good shape rubber wise but the seal on the mag side had the spring popped off of it and was just riding on the shaft this could possibly have caused a small leak but there is comfort in knowing that they are new now. Thanks for your help.
