You can try looking for one from a 82 or newer John Deere Trailfire. Or a Snowfire or Sprintfire.
-
Thanks for the info
They seem easier to find :)
Do you know if They have a cdi built in?
-
Yes the late ones do
-
Having no luck.
Are there any options to change to a more modern ignition?
-
Check my reply to your other post, hope it helps.

Hmmmm , I believe I have one from a 1980 340 drifter. Seems how they are rare I wouldn’t know a asking price. I believe the sled had 1000miles on it , still have parts left over from it. I can check if needed?
-
Ya.
I do need it.
If you want to pm me or send me your email we can figure out a price
Can you send me a pic so I can make sure it’s the same?
Thanks a million

No. That’s just coil
In my ‘80 340
It’s a coil cdi combo

I'd be tempted to get one from the 440 and give it a try.

I ordered a cdi and coil for a 440, see what happens!
I changed out the stator with another I had just to be sure,
It fired right up and left me stranded 10 min later, then after it cooled down spark came back,
rode it back to the shop .
next day no spark again.
ill let you know if the 440 rig works.:)

It seems to me I have read some place the the 340 F/A was "de tuned". If the 340 fanner used the same CDI perhaps is was also?? The F/A was listed at 28 hp and the fanner was 30 hp. Something to ponder??

IT WORKED!
Thanks for your advice, I bought a new coil and cdi for a 440 and it fired right up.
for anyone else looking its part number
The coil was from royal distributing
Part #01-143-19
The cdi was from kimpex
Part # 01-143-20
took the whole winter to figure it out but now she lives in all her glory.
thanks for your help
cheers
