Title: parts for Invader 340?
Post by: vmax84 on August 21, 2014, 09:17:28 PM
Thinking about taking the plunge with a project Invader 440 or 340, but was wondering are the parts for a 340 harder to come across vs the 440?

Thank you.

Only real parts differences are the carbs, cylinders, heads, pistons and gearing.

340 carbs and gearing are not an issue. Cylinders, pistons/rings and heads are harder to find for 340's. They are out there just takes longer to find them

I do have a "parts sled" Invader 340...  has a complete running engine (great compression 150 psi) just haven't had the time to pull the sled apart.  I've seen many more 440's than 340's, but as was mentioned pretty much the same sled.  The hp ratings are not much different...  60 vs. 65 ish.  Value prob not much different either.

IMO...  find yourself a 440, unless you already have a 340.  You won't have any problems finding 440 stuff.

You can find the cylinders , heads and most of the gaskets on Ebay and craigslist.  I've seen them on these sights.  If you are looking for a very nice 340 I have one at my brother - Inlaws in the U.P.  I can send pics .   It only has 348 orig.  miles and is all orig.

While my opinion is that they are both amazing sleds, the 340 has a certain charm that makes it my current favorite sled.  It is probably the gearing but the engine spins up quickly and it is a blast to drive.  There seems to be quite a bit of confusion related to aftermarket pistons and many of the 340 listings are followed by F/C with only a rare listing for L/C.  I can't say I know the difference but will admit to running the F/C pistons.

Thank you for the replies.   I have a couple "boring" Skidoos (my girls ride them although 380's are plenty fast for them) and few older ones:

1984 Vmax
1981 SS440
1980 Skidoo Blizzard 7500

Here's a pic of the Skidoo.    Has around 750 original miles on it, but does need a good going thru to clean it up.  Runs like a scalded cat for a little 340.   Has twin pipes.   Very fun to ride:
