What is wrong with this picture
« on: February 23, 2013, 05:43:22 PM »
Every time I take a look at this 4/6 I see something different.  And likely, if I could put the pieces all together it would tell either an interesting or a woeful story.

Today I was puttering in the garage.  No snow, NEOKaws cancelled, so what else is there to do.  I kept looking at the bolts holding the hinges to the hood - one 10mm hex head and two slotted screws.  So I decided that I would change them to something a bit more stock looking - SS Pan head screws.  Well obviously I wasn't too observant because when the hinges came off it was clear that they were just modified door hinges not Kawasaki hood hinges.

So here is what I have found so far:

1.  door hinges instead of the correct hood hinges
2.  aftermarket skis that did not fit the LTD springs so they ground the LTD springs to be narrower at the ends
3.  bent crankshaft

Something tells me that the former owner hit something or came to an unanticipated abrupt stop.  But the hood does not appear to be cracked, repaired or repainted, and the frame appears to be straight.

It always amazes me the fixes you find on old sleds

Would be nice to know more of the history on some of them.
