Looking at potentially adding studs to my 1980 440 Drifter. I've never studded a track before but it doesn't look to be too hard to actually install but I have no ides what type of studs, length of studs, or how many studs. The videos I watched said studs are designed specifically for different types of tracks so I was curious what kind of studs people would recommend. I'm not doing ice drags or anything like that, I just race it on a snow track once a year and thought I could use some extra hookup out of the corners. Thanks!

I don't know anything about racing, but we use 0.875" studs and normally install 2 in every other track section according to the studding template to give them a total of 48.

I've heard 1 stud per HP. But the type of studs makes a huge difference... I run a new style camoplast track that has had the lugs shaved to 1/2" with 120 ice picks and 24 chisels in the Intimidator (440 Invader) for ice drag racing. I started with new carbide trail studs, and it wouldn't hook up for nothing. The first time pinned it with the picks installed I thought it was coming over backwards!
The picks are .75" long, local rules say nothing longer. They usually recommend 1/8" to 3/16" taller than the lugs for trail studs.
