Has anyone tried a L.E.D headlamp bulb in these old Kawasaki's?
I want bar & thumb warmers on my 440 Invader so I though it would be a good way to free up wattage by using a LED headlight.
If I'm the only one I'll post the outcome.
P.S ; I need the speedo drive gear that goes into the hole on the chaincase that drives the cable on the '80-81

If I understand correctly I think you are looking for 39072-3503 KEY, speedometer adaptor?

Check with Gixxer6. I believe that he may have used a LED bulb in the Intimidator.
As far as bar warmers, our sleds take the extra wattage of the bar warmers with no problem.

I'm used to buying new SKI-DOO's every few years so I'm new to these old Kawasaki's so I wasn't sure how much power ad ons it can handle.
I'm probably going to add a heated visor plug too along with the bar & thumb warmer.
Re speedo, I'll put a wanted ad out for the part.
To describe it, ...the cable is there with a aluminium part on the end of the cable with a gear in it, this attaches to the chaincase but it looks like a "driver" gear that should be inserted into the outside of the chaincase is missing. There's nothing there to drive the gear attatched to the cable.
I believe this is a 1980 and up speedometer set up. I can take a pic tomorrow and post it with my ad.

Are you running an electric start sled or a manual start sled?
Kawasaki runs AC on the manual start sleds, so if you have a manual start sled, before adding a plug for the visor double check to see if you can get the right output for your visor.
If the sled is electric start you can tap that system for 12V DC.

mswyka is correct, the manual sleds use an un-rectified AC voltage. If you have an electric start sled then you have a voltage regulator with a rectifier that will change the voltage to a pulsing DC. If you have a battery installed in the e-start sled then you have DC voltage. I run some led's on the Intimidator but have an e-start regulator installed with a VERY small 12v lead acid battery. I haven't tried it without the battery, but I believe the led's would flicker really bad without it...

Answers like these are what make Kawasakitrax the place to come for your Kawasaki snowmobile questions!! ;D ;D ;D

Thanks guys...It doesn't have electric start. It did have bar warmers but the wires were cut so I was going to re wire it and add a thumb warmer.
Visor plug isn't a must, I won't be riding it in bitter cold anyway.
I haven't even looked at it since I brought it home, it's too cold here right now and no room in the garage.

If I remember correctly it should produce a max of 120 watts AC. It's listed in the manual on the first pages of general info.

Yes that's it!!... now that I saw a pic of whats missing, I can make one but I need to find the adapter that's still intact with both gears inside.

The key is a square spring and meant to be the week point so avoid key stock if you make one. They are .099 square and 2.150 long.
This is what you are looking for.

Thanks, gixxer6 said he may have one but I'll buy that one if he doesn't.
