Passenger grab handles
« on: January 22, 2014, 09:32:51 AM »
I did the unthinkable...pulled on the passenger grab handle to move the sled...yep she broke,  just wondering if these are still available as NOS parts.  Oh yeah 1979 drifter 340.  Oem part number 100881.

Thanks

About the best you can do is watch swap meets for used handles. They show up every so often. Have not seen anyone make aftermarket ones that fit.

Has anyone found a glue or drilled it and pinned it?  Mine is a clean break in the middle.
Thanks for the reply.

Not sure if the intruders are the same but I don't really have any parts for sale/swap either.  Thanks for the offer anyway.

In my experience, these 30+ year old handles are strictly a decoration.  They are old and brittle and are very weak.  If you're wanting something for a second rider to hold on to for functionality, look for some new aftermarket handles.  Otherwise I don't see why some good plastic glue wouldn't work, to keep it looking original.

Invaders and Intruders used the same handles.

I made a set out of wood (oak) and painted them black.  Your likely would never know as I agree, decoration only.  They've been on my Drifter for 3 years and look fine.  I picked up a replacement set 3 years ago and will swap the wood for plastic but they've lasted well.  Jig saw and a fair amount of sanding with some black paint and your good.  Steve :D

I think those would work fine. I measured the center to center holes in the tunnel for the attachment bolts, and my '75 SnoJet and '79 Invader both look like 5 3/8 inches.
They aren't the exact same mold as the original Kawis, but at least they would be better than nothing, if you're not worried about a "show" sled.
My Invader still has the originals, but I sure don't trust them. They're probably as brittle as uncooked spaghetti! :D
75 SnoJet Astro SS, 79 Kawasaki Invader 440 (two of them), 81 Scorpion Sidewinder, 82 Blizzard 9500, 83 Yamaha Vmax 540, 97 MXZ 670....and holding...for now.
