Invader oval racer
« on: December 19, 2012, 07:50:36 PM »
I am new to invaders but was looking for a sled i could race in a vintage oval race near the family cabin in northern pa.  I bought one then found a much nicer one so now i own two. One 78' with 2000 miles that sat outside for last several years so is a bit weathered but ran when parked.  The other 81' has 3700 miles but stored indoors and is in real nice shape, except the heads where pulled to replace a leaking head gasket.   Cylinders and pistons look good.

Now my questions.  Are the cylinders chrome?  Should i replace the rings before reassembly?  Based on what i have read, i guess i must replace the crank seals?   Is the 78 and 80'engines the same?  Will an invader make a good oval racer?

I plan to make one good sled and sell or part out the other
