Invader 440
« on: October 24, 2012, 07:33:04 PM »
Ok im gonna start at the begining with this sled, This sled was an intruder with a blown motor so I removed the 440 fan cooled motor and put in my 440 liquid cooled motor with new pistons and rings and seals all the way threw it also it has 36 mm carbs 'Mukinis' all the right jets. Welded mounts for the radiator cut holes for the heat exchanger changed dashes I did all that so basically the tunel and belly pan are an intruder 440, Now the problem I have is that the sled heats up really fast at an idle and is super boggy on take offs sometimes wont even move now other times its fine, I dont know what to do with this sled any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Did you use the early short heat exchanger or the later long one?

if the crank seals are leaking, or the carb boots, it will bog and overheat,. I have had brand new seals go bad, adding grease to the inside of the seals help them last longer and prevent dry running on the first startup.

Did you use an Invader hood? there is air ducting to force air through the radiator and it needs to exit behind the windshield (it has to be on there) Also check the thermostat, it needs to be there too but not stuck closed.

The nature of the beast, it needs to move to cool off. The tunnel cooler only works when it has cold air or snow against it to cool the coolant, the radiator only works when air is flowing through it.

It has the Invader hood on it I forgot to mention that, Also the carb boots are new as well and i used yamabond on then before installing them same with the crank seals. Could it be the CDI box?

What make of carb boots did you put on?

I have had terrible luck with aftermarket boots. I only put on real Mikuni carb boots. No leakage issues since I switched.

I melted a piston last year on an Invader I had just bought. Brand new after market carb boots. It now has a new piston and mikuni boots

vry true. I have had problems with carb boots that have a crease in them once they are bolted down. Never had an issue with Mikuni boots.
