Motor differences Intruder
« on: February 16, 2015, 06:25:14 PM »
I'm wondering if any changes in the motor on a Intruders over the years 78-82?

I have a 79 Intruder motor with 550 miles and also a 82 with 4,100 miles.   I'm going to transplant into a 1983 Liquifire.

Just curious on what is the best choice.  I'm also missing ignition coil/ plug wires on both motors!  (if anyone has one let me know)

Thanks -Matt

There are a few differences between the 78 and the 82 - one of which being the coil that you are missing.  But, what are you doing putting a fan cooled engine in a liquifier?  Why not put a  liquid engine back in that sled?

83's are quite rare.  Put a liquid back in it!   8)

Ya a 4/6 would be nice, better than a fan.

Several of the Deere guys have been talking about putting an Intruder motor into a Liquifire for a while now for the sake of the simplicity of a fanner, but better performance then a Sportfire (single carb and didn't originally have oil injection).  It should bolt right in to the Liquifire bulkhead.

I can see the attraction to the Intruder engine in a Liquifire if your using it for a run around sled. The Intruder engine would be a little less finicky than a LF engine
But you have a little better handling than a Sportfire.

Thinking about it. That would have been a great way for Deere to have built the Sportfire.

80 440 Invader

Perfectly said.  Thanks for all the responses!
