Plug fouling on 79 Drifter
« on: January 02, 2014, 07:05:49 PM »
Problem just started this season - spark plug fouls on PTO side after about 5 minutes of running.  1979 340 Drifter.  Just starts to bog and then looses the plug on the left side.  Plug is black.  I intend to try the following this weekend, but anything else suggested?

1. Check for consistent spark from left side cylinder with new plug
2. Check compression both sides (looking for 110 or more and consistent each side)
3. Swap out coil from Mag to PTO with new plug to see if the problem follows the coil.
4. Check the PTO side seal by spraying starting fluid around the clutch and seeing if RPM's increase.
5. Check plug cap for any broken issues etc.

Issues I had two years ago:  I needed to replace a coil and a condensor as I lost spark on Mag side (I think it was the mag side).

Any other suggestions for testing would be great, thanks!
