Gas Tank conversion
« on: December 18, 2013, 04:51:21 PM »
Well my 340 invader gas tank is pooched, filler neck broke off and tried using PVC pipe. Didnt turn out right. So I was looking at the drifter gas tank and looked pretty much the same. Will that tank fit my invader?

I think that you can make just about anything work.  The better question is whether or not you will like it.  I can recommend the replacement filler neck sold by Image.  They are easy to install and work great.  With the cap on no one can tell  the difference.

They are not an exact replacement.

Like Mark said, anything will fit if you mod it enough.

The Image kit is very nice, and much stronger than the stock threads.  http://www.imageenterprises.com/kawasaki-parts-for-sale.cfm

If I were to order it, how much do they charge? And what would that be in CAD?

Last neck I replaced was a few years ago. Not bad to do, it involves cutting off the old neck (or what is left of it) and making the surface flat (or smooth) and putting the replacement neck in place with an o-ring seal underneath, drilling 6 screw holes in the tank to attach it and you are done.  With the gas cap in place, the mount is completely hidden, and the replacement neck is much stronger than the original one.

Not sure on the price but I think Image Enterprise is the only place that has them.   The other option is to fin a replacement tank, but a cracked neck is real common problem.

Last time I bought a kit it was $45USD plus shipping.  The last time I sold a tank with good threads, I sold it for $60.  But as far as I can tell, its only a matter of time before they all break.

I just purchased the filler neck from Bob last week and I think it was $50 something but I wanted a quick fix and I guess you just pay the piper.  Cut the old one off and sanded the surface smooth.  I elected to glue mine with a 3M 2-part epoxy versus the screw route.  I think it looks much nicer than a circle of screws.

with the cap on you don't see the screws (unless they have changed) and any glue usually needs a super clean surface to get a good grip. The plastic can absorb  the gasoline and is tough to get clean. Hope it works out for you.

I picked up an Invader a week ago with a similar issue.   I sent an email to the link above.  Anyone know if they still make it or should I look for other options?
