I wanted all of us Kawasakitrax folks to be aware of this for next winter's Waconia vintage show.
Waconia's featured vintage sleds next year are SnoJet and Kawasaki.
I'm trying to decide if I should try to attend....9 hour drive for me (in good weather) according to google maps....but may be a once in a lifetime chance. 8)
-
It's an 11+ hour trip for me :-\, but would be a good excuse to FINALLY finish my Interceptor...
-
The Waconia Show has been going on for a long time and is something that should be experienced. Huge swap meet, and the trail ride is amazing! They usually have around 800 sleds all cruising around the lake. The show itself (on sunday) is well laid out and attracts a lot of different sleds, some that are quite rare, The loud sled contest is also quite fun!!
They do an exquisite job with lots of helpers around I would say it is worth the trip! but I have been attending since about the second year, with an occasional year off when things don't work out.

Interesting way to look at the trail ride and area...
-
I have not been there the last 3 years but am planning on going for this one. If they need a little help with the build hopefully they will check in over here.
-
I tried to log in to VS but been kicked back oh well told winter thunder I could donate the 340 Pistons & rings I have a set of OEM.
As far as Waconia I've been going off/on since they started. Full display inside starting Friday night for the opening ceremony through Sunday quite a few people show up. Saturday they normally have dragracing, trail ride, pork chops, silent auction, swap meet & a list of other things. Sunday is the show, swap, oval racing. There is quite bit to do all weekend if you get bored there is something wrong.
-
any plans? I'm good for a harder to find part....
-
If your looking for Kawasaki parts going to the Kawasaki guys would be the thing to do. All they need to do is sign in and ask.
-
I ment I will donate a nos dash or skies,etc...good cause....
-
Tip of the cap to all donations and offers, I"am writing it all down and will be passed on to who does rebuild. Thank You. Yes, it may seem like a bit of a travel for some, but experience and memories will always be. And the parts from the swap meet. KawiDog
-
Good to know now who "KawiDog" is on the other website. I figured they wouldn't have asked for your help unless you knew Kawis. 8)
I'm seriously thinking about making the trip next year. We sure didn't get enough snow this winter around my neck of the woods to get in hardly any riding.
I only have a 2 place trailer, and think one of my three sons could get free to go with me. Although....I have a whole year to prepare...perhaps I could borrow a 4 place trailer if more than 2 of us could make the trip.
What would be ideal would be to head up Wednesday and stay somewhere an hour or so South of Waconia. I will have to research the trails in that area....that way we could ride Thurs. and Friday, then travel to Waconia Fri. nite.
I suppose lodging near Waconia is just packed during the weekend of the show.
gixxer6...get that Interceptor ready!! I'm not a huge fan of Nike, but you know their motto...."Just Do It"! ;D ;)
-
Thank You for the vote of confidence on knowledge of Kawi"s, I'm certainly no expert nor claim to be. That is why I have all of you and lots of manuals. I live near Red Wing, Minn. area on Wisc. side of river. Witch puts me about 1 1/2 hrs. from Waconia. JimVW would be the one to hit up for lodging. Trails are great on both sides, with snow. Did not have much snow here ether.
-
So where do you want those parts sent too ?
-
Who is doing the build? If they would post a list of parts needed, I could donate some parts as well. I'm sure others would step up too...
-
On Vintage Sleds, Bull sessions,24/7 2017 Kawasaki Cancer Build, there is a list of parts needed. I"am sure other parts maybe needed as build takes place. And no one has stepped up for the build yet. I did donate the sled, but my shop is booked for now. I"am working with Mayo Clinic Development on this. This is new to me, any hints or guidance I would be very thankful for.
-
Anyone who is serious about coming to Waconia for more than the day needs to be looking for lodging now. As far as the sled if I could get my hands on the suspension I would be willing to make it "purty" again.
-
Thank You Interceptor 398, I will try to make that happen.
-

FYI, the latest info on the build.
Who is KawiDog on this site, if he is on here?
-
Thank You Interceptor 398, I will try to make that happen.
I have everything for the suspension and will plan on bringing it to my place to fix it up.
-
Perfect, Thank You. Interceptor 398. That will happen. I:am KawiDog alive and well.
-
Sheeesh, I had figured out who "KawiDog" was on here several days ago, but had forgotten already. ::)
Thanks

Glad I could get there today, it was a nice time and for a good cause.
-
Dang!! I missed it! and it is so fr for me to drive too...
-
Missed you JimVW, thought you might show up.
-
didn't even hear about it until Sunday...
-
Maybe rebuild time Jim, your expertise would be very helpful. Possible end of July.
-
Does your engine guy need those Pistons ?
-
Engine was done and sitting on the bench.

a phone call would've been appreciated either yah or nah but glad I asked thanks
-
Let me know and I will be there!!

We are in need of a nice 80 340 Invader hood, trying to keep it looking factory. The hood we have needs a little work, so we decided to see if we could find an original. Thank You.
-
Kawhead, you may have a nos dash, we could use that, this one has a burn mark in it and corners broke off. Thank You. Greg 803-627-3884
-
If it's the 2-piece dash, I have one in excellent shape that I would donate.
-
This is a one piece dash . Thanks for the offer.
-
After cleaning parts this past weekend, tested temperature gauge, did not work. So we need one part#52005-3504, has numbers on it. Also a dash, part#59225-3515, one we have has a burn mark on it, and broken corners. Will be in St. Germain, if that works. Also looking for other Kawasaki parts. Thanks Everyone.
-
After going thru 6 different 1980 Invader suspensions and all my archives I still am in need of PN 39020-3508. The right rear suspension bracket that mounts to the rail and has a mount for an 3.25 diameter idler wheel. Anyone out there with a spare??
-
I have nothing
-
Is this part the same on the 79' skids?

There was 2 temp gauges in the parts you got from me.
-
You are right, Trucker, thanks. Still looking for a 1 piece dash and 80 340 Invader hood.
-
Is this part the same on the 79' skids?
It is the one with two small idler wheels for the track to bump on.

I don't have any used ones. I do have a handful of NOS skid parts, I will take a look to see if I have one.

We are in need of a nice 80 340 Invader hood, trying to keep it looking factory. The hood we have needs a little work, so we decided to see if we could find an original. Thank You.
I have a REAL nice 79' 440 Invader hood that I would donate if that helps. Maybe someone has a 340 decal that could be swapped out?
-
That"s a great offer gixxer6, Thanks, but does the 79 hood have the 2 vents on the left side like the 80 does? And we would still need decals.
-
I posted on vintagesleds, about rebuild time. Hope everyone's summer has been good thus far, any way thinkin about Sat. July 23rd, 9:30am. I see Princeton is 33 days later, this will give us something to talk about.
-
Just a friendly up date, July 23rd, this coming Saturday, start rebuild. Haven"t heard from Interceptor 398, hope all is well. Looking forward to getting this started.
-
Suspension is on the bench, 23rd is not the most convenient day for me but I am trying to make it work. Hope all is well!!
-
All is well here. If you don"t make it, we will work around it.
-
I have a few more little parts on their way here for this project that will not be here until next week. Has anyone else offered up a nice dash for this build??
-
No, sorry to say, no dash.
-
Darn!! This suspension has turned into a week long adventure but it will be nice!! :o
-
Looking forward to seeing it. I have to believe it will work well.
-
I ment I will donate a nos dash or skies,etc...good cause....
We are still interested in finding a dash a1980 1 piece dash.
-
Yes, a dash will be a part of next rebuild.
-
May have found one.
-
That would be great. Thank You.
-
I'm having it sent to BornagainKawi directly and I hope the member will admit to sending it.
Thanks a bunch!!
-
Arrived today, Thank You very much. Pics on Vintage sleds.

If you could, please put some pics here also. I hope to get mine up here.

Here we go-
-
More-
-
Looks great! Are there more parts that you need?
-
A picture of the parts.
-
Anyone out there tried to up grade the 2 bushings and sleeve for the suspension shock to a good rubber one like the other end of the shock?? That to me seems like a better choice.
-
Hey them parts are looking great. The bushing idea sounds great, don"t know why it can"t be done.
-
Thanks!! I decided to try the rivet game putting it back together. Note to self------ make sure to be sure the parts fit before you paint and try to rivet them back in place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Parts look awesome those rivets are a trick if you have the wrong tooling
-
Parts look awesome those rivets are a trick if you have the wrong tooling
I made a couple little pieces to help but it but it is still a challenge.
-
We use to have tooling on the farm, to do sickle blades, for cutting hay. One tool was a rail road iron. Might not be good here.
-
I never tried the solid rivets, cool that is what you are doing.....I have a few brackets if any turn out bad.....great work
-
After thinking I would just put bolts in I changed my mind. I found bulk rivets of the correct size so why not try to keep it original if I can. It takes 4 hands to do it this way but I think it will turn out OK with a helper. Before I finish the rivets I need to do a little welding to repair a worn spot where the front suspension spring did some damage to the rail. I kind of stepped into a hornets nest with this one!! LOL
-
I have all the NOS decals for the 1980 Invader, except the lower section ,the 340 and the words Kawasaki if you might need these. could use one extra section to make the lower section up. Let me know if you guys could use these. Doug
-
I dig your helper and the work clothes
-
Clamp the parts they make a tool for air chisel that shapes the dome of the rivet the backer is a solid block I have some of those tools it's really not that bad
-
I made a couple tools to aid with the riveting, it takes 3 hands but is turning out fine.
-
Ain"t restoring fun. Can"t wait to see this. Might learn something.
-
Yup, a resurrection can be a challenge but a restoration is a whole other can of worms!! I'm glad you got the ball rolling early!!
-
It will work out fine.
-
It will work out fine.
Completely agree!! ;D
-
Here is the after picture and the before picture, needed to do a little welding to make it perrty.
-
Looks great.
-
Nice work, 398! 8)
-
Thinkin about Oct. 15th Saturday, 9:30am, to continue build and maybe wrapped up.
-
That should work for me.
-
Good deal. Lookin forward to it. Maybe get some more pics up.
-
Yes, October 15th 9:30am start time. Thinkin about pizza for lunch, 12:30 or so. Fall colors should be great, come see how a Kawi is put together, and bring stories. Again THANK YOU for donations and time. Yes same address N 1507 715th St. Bay City Wi. 54723

I can bring caramel rolls from my favorite mother in law. She makes them and sells them giving all the proceeds to the American Cancer society, seems fitting. So far she has done over $30000.00 in her efforts.
-
Caramel rolls, fantastic. Do we need micro-wave and butter?
-
jimvw57, you have been notified. Be great to see everyone.
-
These rolls are so in demand around here that I only get them once a year. They will be fresh Saturday morning.
-
Might be a tough weekend.. father in law is not doing too well, had 3/4 of his lung removed, now he has signs of cancer in his kidneys, 1 week of chemo and today it appears he has had a stroke. Time will tell.
Would love to stop by and see everyone, we shall see how things progress.
-
That's a tough one Jim. I hope to see you there but I understand if you can not make it. Is there anything we might be missing for this re assembly??
-
Yes, it looks as tho every thing should be here or coming. Jim would be great to see you, even stop by and say hi. I do wish you and family the best.
-
Well things got worse. I nailed a deer on the way home last night... some idiot flipped his brights on driving towards me and blinded me just as the deer jumped out. Not a good thing in a Smart car. No damage to me but the front of the car is pretty well all busted up. It did it's job and kept me safe.
-
Well we made some good progress on this sled today. A few more small things to do and it will be ready.
-
Nicely done
-
Sorry to here about your car Jim, I know you like it, best thing is your in good shape.
-
Yes, the sled is looking great, will be a tough one to part with. Thank You to all, again, for parts and contributions and time.
-
more pics-
-
Tell me a little more of the red suit.
-
Congrats to all who worked on this beautiful sled....well done !
-
The Red Suit-- you will have to get your Best Of SnoPro 2. Special Collector's Edition - Volume III magazine out, 1978-1982. That Red Suit and sash, will be on page 23. With the Tournament of Champions at Owatonna, Minn.

Nice!! Mad Kawi has visited your place big time! Nice work.
-
After our last build, the ski shock issue was brought up. So we would love to find a set NOS shocks or a used set without pitting or rust, on piston shaft. Thank You.
-
Looks great guys!! Nice work 8)
-
After 3 hours of editing pictures I am getting closer to sharing my adventure with this 1980 resurrection. ;D
-
Are you gonna make a binder so people at Waconia can see the progress
-
That is the rumor.
-
For some reason when I use photobucket my French gets better, but I'm getting there.
-
Your ahead of me on the photobucket part. The French part I got. Thanks.
-
Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Old girl is looking good!
-
how did it go?? what was the amount it sold for? I was there in spirit!!
-
It was a blast plus the Kawasaki VIP's made this one a once in a lifetime event for us Kawaholics. Sled sold for $2250.00 to a very nice couple. She bought the sled for him. Pictures will eventually show up.
-
I saw it sitting there Friday sure looked purdy
