I'm looking for the speedometer drive gear that inserts into the chaincase (on the outside of the case) that drives the cable and the gear inside the 90 deg piece attached to the cable.
I'd post a pic but this site won't let me post a jpg off my phone for some unknown reason.
-
File size is likely to big. Reduce it to about 1mb and it should work.
-
O.k on my computer and not the phone I can post the pix.
So....am I right and there should be a small gear on a shaft inserted into the chain-case then the cable, I don't see how else it would work.
I need the gear if anyone has one.

There's one on ebay.

Thanks....
That looks like it's also missing a shaft that goes through the small hole inside the big nut end and possibly the gear inside that I think I'm missing. I think here should be two gears inside that adapter, one that the chaincase drives, then the lower one that transfers rotation to the cable itself.
I'll message the guy and see if he has any sort of drive shaft for the adapter.
-
Can someone with one of these machines that has the speedo running off of the chaincase please unbolt that adapter from the chaincase and tell me if there's a small shaft or key running through there into the adapter.
I have the adapter, I have the cable, there's something missing.
A photo would help so I know what I'm actually looking for.
Pic below shows the adapter opened up with one gear, there should be another on a shaft to drive it??
-
A few more pix of the empty adapter

This is all I'm seeing in the parts manual. Really doesn't show a breakdown of that part.
-
Thanks Vader440
At least now I can see that there is a separate key/drive shaft that I'm also missing and it's not a one piece gear and key.
So...WANTED, one drive key, one complete adapter with BOTH gears inside.
-
I don't believe they are meant to be taken apart.
I may have an extra one, I will look tonight.
-
I agree, there was a tiny pin holding the large nut on to the adaptor body. For whatever reason it's gone and the key and the gear it drives must have exited out the exhaust hole in the pan.
If you have one I would buy it, the eBay guy didn't answer my questions.
I could always just mount my GPS for speed but I like everything working as it should ...drives me crazy if something isn't working.. lol

What are the numbers stamped in the round end plate?
-
I looked with a strong magnifying glass and there are no numbers or even a trace of a number. Only a "L" on the large nut.
Strange it has no part number anywhere unless it was on a small decal that fell off 30 years ago...
Mine has slight differences than the one in the ebay ad posted above.

For the SS440-A2 the part number for the adaptor is 41077-3501 "Adaptor, speedometer drive". The book does not say what ratio this adaptor is. I have a couple that are 1-3 and 1-1.375 etc. I will go out later today and check my 80 Invader to see if it has the ratio stamped in the adaptor.

Checked my 81 Invader and the adaptor is stamped 1-3.
