Title: WANTED: vari-ride suspension or parts
Post by: Macs80hp440 on December 21, 2014, 03:04:30 PM
Greetings folks,  I spent last year rebuilding two Invaders.  Had fun riding them last year.  My '79 got stuck in the down position during one ride.  I'd like to remedy that issue, but my cross shaft is slightly bent and I can't remove it.  Anyone got a complete vari-ride or at least the rear swing arm assembly?  picture shows what I need, eh.

Hec- I'd even take some advise on how to get the cross shaft removed...heat and patience hasn't worked.  I'm getting close to using force and curse words.

I am not familiar with 79 having a vari-ride.   The bracket in the photo looks like a 80 or 81/82 LTD.  We might have a spare bracket, but you can also dissolve the shaft out with some muriatic acid.

I've got a complete Vari Ride from an 80' 4/6 LTD that I'd sell.

I should have mentioned why my "79" invader has vari-ride suspension.  It is actually a hodge podge sled.  '78 chassis with '80 vari-ride and '79 hood.  I call it my '79 because it looks like a '79 with the hood.  My second sled is more like a '78 but I call it my '80 with the dark blue hood...

Anyway, I actually got the longer shaft out after successfully bending it straight again.  But the smaller shaft is about as stubborn as can be.  Acid might work at removing the shaft, but I'd still need a replacement shaft in the end.  Gixxer offered a suspension, but MI shipping to IA will probably break the idea...

I might try the acetone transmission fluid cocktail next...  I hope I figure out something, I'm darn proud of that '79.  It runs like an Indy race car.  Kept up with any 500cc and 600cc on the trails, and not too shabby on the lakes.  That's saying something when there is 20 years difference between the sleds, eh.

That's what I tell a buddy of mine, they might be old but they can still haul ass ;D. Plus I think Kawasaki had the best looking sled of all time.
