Aside from the different color paint
« on: December 19, 2015, 01:21:42 PM »
Aside from the different color paint, can anyone tell me the exact differences between the TOC sleds and the stock Invader?  And, were there any differences  between 79 and 80, again except for the trim scheme?

 Not sure what you're asking......I thought the T.O.C. Invaders were only a one year deal?....maybe not.
 I have never read anything that suggested the T.O.C. sleds were not completely stock, other than traction devices....studs, carbides, etc. Maybe someone knows more??
 If you're asking the differences between the regular 79 models, and the 80, these things come to mind....which you probably already know;
   1.  The speedometer drive was moved from beneath the driven clutch, over to the chaincase, so it wouldn't get taken out with a blown belt.
   2.  According to a brochure I used to have, the seat foam was softer for the 80 models. I know my 79 Invader is made from pretty firm stuff!
   3.  Somehow, Kawasaki increased the instrument lighting "brightness" for 1980, either with different bulbs, or a subtle design change of the instruments...?
   4.  Probably the most significant change was the new tuned muffler for the 1980 440 Invader. The brochures of the day claimed a 5 % increase in power....which would be roughly 3 or 3.5 HP.??
75 SnoJet Astro SS, 79 Kawasaki Invader 440 (two of them), 81 Scorpion Sidewinder, 82 Blizzard 9500, 83 Yamaha Vmax 540, 97 MXZ 670....and holding...for now.

There are a few things that I have seen in photos that I am hoping to ground truth with someone who has owned or personally seen these sleds.  It looked to me like the handle bars and the skis may have had a modification.  I am also assuming that there may have been some physical modifications for racing - a kill switch tether comes to mind.  Just hoping to gather as much information as possible.

It seems like Jay Carsley would be the man with the answers. He owns #5 of 13 made and is very knowledgeable about TOC.
