Newbie & 440 Drifter
« on: January 21, 2014, 07:55:08 PM »
HI folks
Im a snowmobile virgin so please be gentle :)

A friend of mine gave me his old 440 drifter, its tatty an needs some work but it runs ok.
Exhaust Y piece is damaged and has been fixed several time by the looks of it, anyway it turned out the rear engine mounts weren't fixed in place, we've sorted that now but it turns out its fitted with a 340 carb, can anyone tell me what carb is meant to be on it or what others will fit?
Ive got to get some guides/runners for the skis and need some brake pads, oh and the wiring will need sorted (it works but is a mess)
I'm just gonna use it locally this winter to get the hang of it but plan to do it up over the winter with the kids so it'll be fit for riding on the trails

Is there a good place for buying parts for these sleds, I've looked on kijiji NS & eBay but there's not much around
What other sleds share the same engine or other parts?

Any info or help greatly appreciated

Thanx

Hi and Welcome to the world of Kawasaki sleds

What year is your Drifter? Different years have slightly different engines.

Parts are available, You just need to find them, There are lots of people on here that will help you.

John Deere Sportfire's have the same basic engine. But they have different exhaust.

The carb should be a Mikuni vm32 with a power jet (same basic carb as a 340 just jetted different)

Good luck, ask lots of questions and pics are good!!

Welcome to the site!  Look for a tag on the engine and there should also be one on the right side of the tunnel and a stamped number as well on the right foot area.  This will help with what you need.

Thanks for the info guys
I managed to get this info off the sled

Info off main plate
Serial No VIN:  727645
Product code:  SB440 A C201
Market Code : SB440-A3
Date of MFG:  8  1978

Info of fan cover
TA440B-B201

Info off engine
TA440B-006239

also found (cant remember where on machine this was) :)
CTL440/2A

Carb is deffo wrong one as its a bit loose in the inlet rubber, could only find MIC on the side of the carb an no other numbers etc.

I got it running now an the Y piece welded up but the clutch is makin a terrible racket so think it need new rollers etc

Any idea where I can get parts from or if theres a upgrade from another model
