78 invader 440 and LTD twin pipes
« on: November 11, 2020, 09:56:33 AM »
Saw a guy selling a set of LTD twin pipes and was curious about engine modifications required to install them on a 1978 Invader 440 and would it add much performance to the machine?

It adds more weight than performance...  And without the proper porting it will likely decrease HP.

If you are looking for added performance, I would recommend switching to an 80-81 Invader pipe.  They are just a little heavier, require no mods, and should give you a noticeable power increase.

I have one experience putting twin pipes on an Intruder.  They worked, but I did not like the way the sled ran with that configuration.

If you do add the twin pipes, note that the 1980 pipes can be made to fit.  The 1981 and 1982 LTD pipes will not be a direct couple.

Thanks for the input, I'll probably just stick with the single pipe unless I randomly come upon a newer invader pipe for sale.
