Title: Kawasaki - Polaris open mod grass drag
Post by: JosephNiemi on November 17, 2012, 07:49:28 PM
Went to a swap meet today and got a 1978 Polaris TX-L aluminum chassis today.  Going to strip it down,  just a little left to go, and build an Open Mod grass drag sled.  I have an extra LTD engine that I can try to mod to the max of my ability and put it in there.  I think i am going to try to find an invader hood to modify for it,  probably wont use any belly pan.

I am completely undecided,  but maybe a Polaris color scheme on a Kawi hood.

pulled off the belly pan, heat exchangers, coolant reservoir + hoses, and the rest of the misc stuff riveted to the chassis.  Next im going to strip the paint off the whole thing and leave it unpainted.  I get to work on my aluminum welding fixing some small breaks in the front of the bulkhead.

Looks like a nice project. I'm thinking about tryong to go the reverse way. Got a 78 invader and an ultra motor on the shelf with a nicce set of triple pipes.

Sold the LTD top end,  going to make it a 530 open mod  8)
i think i am going to run the prototype cylinders that kevin ported (pretty sure)
i have an extra stock bore iron cylinder,  and will keep my eyes open for another one.
also another non-prototype cylinder head would be nice.
