What is this
« on: October 20, 2012, 09:50:56 PM »
Was out working on my interceptors today and while i was taking a little break i was looking at some of my extra stuff.  Got to looking at the "2 LTD" engines I got with my interceptors and one of them is an oddball.

The jugs look the same as the 440/2A ones on the other engine,  but have no markings.  The head has different fins,  and no markings,  and 8 bolts per cylinder.  The tag on the bottom end says TC440D-201,  and over the flywheel the stamp says TC440D-001082.

Anyone have any ideas?  Was looking into building some sleds with them, but not really sure about the one.

Sounds like a 440 bottom end with a 550 topend on it.

that was a thought i had.  Does anyone know if 530 jugs and heads from parts dept. had any numbers or markings on them?  I will try to get around to taking the head off to see bore diameter.

My dad tells me the guy I got this stuff from got it all from another guy named "Kevin" who passed away years ago.  Kevin had a "83 Invader GT" with, i believe, the yamaha style IFS.  I would not think this is the motor out of it.  I wonder if he had access to other prototype stuff,  tho I almost hesitate to suggest it is a prototype unit.

That head definitely looks different than my 530 heads.  The rib things on the top are shaped differently.  My heads have "530/2A Made in Japan" cast into the top, along with numbers that number the head bolts.  The cylinders I have have 530/2A cast onto one side towards the bottom, and "Made in Japan" on the other.  All of my 530 cylinders and heads have 8 bolts, and all of my 440 stuff have 6 bolts...

After thinking about this, I seem to recall seeing pictures of a similar looking head on the old forum.

I got the head off the mystery motor.  It has 75mm pistons in it.  Makes me wonder about the cylinders and heads you could buy from Kawasaki in '82.  Still seems strange that there is no markings,  not even "made in Japan" anywhere.

If it came from Kevin he lived near the R&D facility and i think he might have even worked with them.

It is possible, I have found quite a few 'prototype' parts and even a 1977 Invader with a serial number proto 1+, The pop up headlight assembly was all machined aluminum, LTD seat, LTD skis, and only 300 miles on it.

well,  i think i might be interested in selling or trading the cylinders and head.  without the numbers on these pieces i cannot use them for racing in stock classes.  i hope to have at least one of these interceptors racing next year in vintage grass drags.
