Who wants reproduction Interceptor parts?
« on: February 03, 2014, 05:59:02 PM »
I'm in the process of building some reproduction belt guard hinges.  That got me thinking...What other parts do people need?  I was thinking about making some rear grab bars (bumper), some snow flaps, and maybe some belt guards?  Would anybody be interested in these?

What parts do you need?

Hi Gixxer6,

I would be interested in a snowflap if it's an exact reproduction...

Also, i know this is a difficult part to machine and would probably be very costly, but rear suspension aluminum rails would be some nice parts to have reproduced.....they are very hard to find....been looking for a set for a long time...

Thanks for keeping our vintage sleds alive !!

The rails are an extrusion so the best option is to find repairable one.  They could be made from bar stock but I think the cost would be much more than repairing them in most cases.

I think Interceptor398 is right.  It can be done, but the cost would be prohibitive.  I had a set of Interceptor rails that were cracked and broken welded.  I ground and smoothed the welds and you could hardly tell it was repaired.

While I was working on the skid, I had thoughts of modifying a set of LTD or Invader rails to fit.  But after looking at it, I found it was much easier to repair the set that I had.

Do you have the stock rails?

Hi Gixxer6,

Yes this is an extra set of used rails that are in really bad shape.....just will have to get some welds done to save them....

PS Do you think you'll be able to find the same type of rubber for the snowflap..?

Take care

...   Snow flap(s)  would be nice (need to look correct though).  Hmmm...  those pesky dash panels?  I have a bunch with cracks and some LTD panels I was going to cut and plastic weld, but just another project I haven't gotten around to.

Yes, same material for the snow flaps...They would be an exact match.

Ahh yes, those darn dash panels...  They are a molded part.  I work in the plastic injection molding industry, and making a mold for low quantities would be cost prohibitive.  I could probably use the molding machines at my work to make them.  It's the cost of building a mold that's the killer.  I have tossed around the idea of making the dash parts from aluminum, then having them powder coated in wrinkle black.  But that wouldn't be cheap either and it seems most guys want an exact match.

I have thought about doing that rear tunnel panel.  Anyone else interested in these?

I was referring to the rear bulkhead, but I could look at doing either.
