Running my 72' Gilson in the one lunger class this Saturday... BUT also running my 79' 440 Drifter Fan in the 1980 (and older) 440cc & under open class. Liquids are allowed in this class, so it should be interesting! The ole' Drifter is pretty quick, so I hope I can stick with all the younger guys. ;D 1/2 mile banked oval. Wish me luck! Pics soon. Pics nothing! I want to see video! No 4/6 for the 440 and under?!
-
Good luck to you 8)

Has to be 79' and older... ridiculous, but those are the rules. No 4/6 by ONE year. Oh well. 4/6 still running great by the way. Yep, I'll get you guys a video. ;)
One lunger class is 73' and older. Gilson just barely makes the cutoff. LOL. running Kawasaki Invader skis and brake! So it's a Gilkawi. ;D

The flyer said 80' and earlier, but the rules online say model year 79' and older. Called to confirm and 79' it is.

Lol. Raced today. Not quite an 1/2 mile oval. NO STUDS. More like a 1/2 mile snow cross from HELL! :o
The class was 440 & under 79' and older. There were a total of 18 entries. The catch is that the engines could me modified and Liquids were allowed. So, here I was running a 440 Fan Cooled single carb Drifter... let's see there were three highly modified 440 Polaris TX's a 79 SRX, three Eltigre 6000's, two Blizzard 9500's and some sleds I couldn't even tell what the hell they were cause' they had so many racing decals, etc. In other words, the ole' 32 hp Drifter was out powered! I wasn't running carbides and still had the stock air box. Here is the best part... I made it to the finals!! There were 12 sleds in the same heat for the last race. We all hit the first corner (about `16' wide) at the same time and obviously a few had to back off (including myself). I decided that I wanted to live to see Sunday, so let the younger guys go nuts. After 12 grueling laps (total of six miles) five sleds crashed and I ended up passing two sleds about lap eight or so. Nobody passed me! I ended up 5th and the Drifter was "in the air" at least a half a dozen times. I am pretty sure I was the oldest guy racing by about 15 years and the only Kawasaki. My legs and back are a little soar, but the sled performed super!
This Drifter had 120+/- original miles and hasn't been driven since 1979!!!!! It came from the Nebraska "Kawasaki warehouse". I haven't changed the crank seals, just cleaned her up and replaced the 30+ yr ole fuel lines!! Yikes! I am not one to praise myself, but we made a great team and showed those higher horsepower sleds that we are competitive! Working on the video and I will post a link soon. Tory

That is a good story. Thanks for sharing.
I think you can put a 4/6 engnine in a 79 chassis ;)

You're prob right and nobody would know any better. Before the race, a few guys verbally said "Well, my sled has a build date of 79'" Geesh... :o

Sounds like a fun time!

Waaaaay COOL! Kawasaki POWER! Looks like a lot of folks must have worked hard to put together a nice track, and it looks like you had a great day to race...weather wise.
Looks like an absolute blast! Way to go! Thanks for the video. 8)
