Not again!
« on: February 21, 2016, 03:00:24 PM »
Hello all I picked up a skid for my 80 440 invader it was from a 80 intruder the question is the arm with the two small idlers are those supposed to be on top in the back or front of my skid also the loops in the back arm aren't even close to the track I'm losing my patience with this sled are the skids different from invader to intruder? Thanks

These are of my 1980 Intruder and what I think is the original suspension.  The parts book shows ( 4 ) 8 inch rear wheels on the Intruder but mine has 3, go figure??

Weird I need to know which end or arm the small idlers should be on something isn't right the drive nubs are rubbing on the arm in back above the idlers.

There was a track change in 1979-1980 to get rid of the tracks that would launch metal parts out the back. When they upgraded to the new style track, they put 4 wheels across the back, and they were a bit larger. If you put a newer style track on the older suspension (with 3 wheels) you probably won't be able to tighten it all the way.

Here are a couple pics of my skid which actually came out of a 1981 Intruder. It's partially disassembled, but you can see the locations of most stuff.
Mine came with an optional marginal snow kit, which is the reason for that extra wheel attached to the rail by the spring....the other side wheel  is off getting a new bearing. :)
My rear axle wheels are nearly 8".....maybe 7 15/16".

The small carrier wheels on the top are mounted on the top of the front arm I bet that's why its rubbing ghe way it is it should be mounted on the rear arm does the make sense?

Yes....if you look at rear arm area, make sure this back arm didn't get installed wrong sometime.....this little loop has to stick up to contact the track occasionally.

The small idlet wheels are mounted on the front arm on mine there's no place to mount them on the rear upper arm! Any thoughts anyone.

My very first Kawi was a 1980 Invader that needed parts.  I still have that un finished sled and will get some pics of the suspension in the daylight for you.

I wish you could take a picture of your skid.....if those small idler wheels are mounted to the front arm, something is really weird.
ALL of the Intruder model years used the same basic rear skid.
 A couple differences...
The 78 skids had a different front spring design than all of the 79 and later skids.
The 78 and 79's came with the 3 wheel rear axle...you already know about that.
ALL of the Invaders were the same deal....EXCEPT the 81 Invader changed to the improved rear skid that first appeared on the 80 LTD.

With the exception of the 81 Invader, all of the other Intruder/Invader skids should interchange...bolt in and go.

Somehow, I fear you may have a really unusual rear skid that someone may have pieced together, if it doesn't closely match the pics of my rear skid.
