New to sleds question about oil tank
« on: April 13, 2013, 09:51:17 PM »
Hi all, I'm new to sleds and my 440 intruder. Idiot question, am I suppose to have a oil tank? Ive been browsing the manuels and still dont know. I don't have one. If I'm suppose to, it's been plumbed around. Can this be done by pre mixing? My only 2 stroke exposure is my weed eater. Thanks for any help you can give this newbie.

Also, what are the clear tubes on the right n left side of the gas tank?

Welcome to the site!!  Yes you should have an oil tank.  It is possible someone switched over to pre mix but you could put it back.  There are plenty of oil tanks around.

Ok, thank you. What should I premix for the time being? I dumped some 50:1 weadeater mix just to get it fired up after we pulled it out of the weeds. Fired up on third pull. :) I'm afraid the crank case seals bad are due to the engine revs never returning to idle. But I'm trying check everything else before I come to that conclusion. Are the clear tubes that are visible next to gas tank gauges ? Thanks for the help

Intruders (air cooled) can be changed to use premix, but not Invaders (liquid cooled) they have different crankshaft bearings.

The clear tubes should show the level of the fuel (left) and oil (right )

Best to see a bit of smoke out the exhaust to show the oil is getting thru. The factory oil injection puts out more oil at higher speeds, less at lower speeds.

I have plenty of oil tanks and would be happy to help you  out.

As far as the pump goes, if it was run without oil you should disassemble it to be sure that the pump was not damaged.  Be careful when disassembling the pump that you don't damage the barrel of the pump.  You must remove the input shaft first before removing the barrel.  The barrel has a smooth coating that must be complete and in tact or oil will leak by.  If this coating is damaged or the barrel is scored you will need to replace the pump.

I have attached a photo showing the disassembled pump.  The barrel is shown below the pump body.  In this photo the input shaft is still in place and you can see the worm gear inside the housing.  Note that the outside of the barrel is scored at the oil holes.

could be a burned out bulb or a bad ground, but check the key first...

Brake light is always the last light to burn out if the voltage regulator is bad.  If you have the key in the correct position, check the voltage on the light circuit.  It may also be possible that the harness plug that plugs into the back of the key switch is not fully engaged.

If the key switch is gone, there is no way to tell whether the wiring is correct or not.  Unless the terminals in the wiring harness plug for the key switch are jumped the lights will not light.  If you need a key switch I can probably help.
