Well buying a invader 340. Seems a pretty good deal, buying it for 450 with a trailor. He tells me it runs good and everything works. I'll see how it runs when it gets here. Can anyone tell me anything about the 340's?

The 340 Invader is my favorite sled. It spins up quickly and is just a blast to drive.
-
Can't go wrong for that kind of money man!
Most everything is repairable... Big expensive time consuming items are belly pan, motor and track...
Track skid frame usually tells you how much the people love there sleds! same goes for hyfax wear strips and wear bars on skis...
Cheers and good luck!
We want pictures!

I'll get pics tomorrow. It needs sliders. But everything minus seat is pretty good. It needs the carbs clean and new plugs. It does run.

Oh nice. I can't wait to drive it this winter after new sliders are on

1980 was the last year for the 340 Invader. They are geared lower to make better use of the smaller motor, and thus don't have quite the top speed of the 440, but they get there a LOT quicker!! Most ice drag sleds use the 340 gears for a quicker takeoff.
My first Kawi was a 340 (1980 too) I was mighty impressed with it and that started me in getting the dreaded Mad Kawi disease...

Here are two pics of it. Still in good condition.

Back in the day, as they say, the 340 Invaders weren't allowed to race in the 340 class but raced in the 440 class, at least up here, apparently it wasn't fair :P
I have a nice 340 in my carport right now and people drop by and wax poetically about how nimble and fast those old Invaders were. I can't wait to get out and try mine out.
Nice looking 340 you have there!

Ohh yea i heard they are pretty quick sleds. You should put a pic up of yours in your carport! And thanx. Im in the process of putting new sliders on and finding a carb for it. Do you know what oil i should use in the gearcase?
-
gearcase should be ATF fluid (the chaincase going to the track) and 10w30 for the oil pump gearcase on the motor
-
What kind of ATF Fluid? And 10W30 snowmobile oil or regular motor oil?
-
Any kind of ATF. and regular 10w30 engine oil

There is no need to overthink this just get what you would put in your car.

Ok, thank you. I'll probably get these then

The motor gearcase holds around 40cc of oil. Most use the same oil they use in their car as they then have a use for the leftover oil. Same for the ATF, It doesn't really matter as it is used as a lubricant and not as a hydraulic fluid, plus there are not any clutch or bands to worry about. Get whatever is on sale.
Snowmobile oil is much thicker and is made to be mixed with gasoline or injected (still mixed with gasoline) Use synthetic if you want but it is a bit spendy.

Personally, I like running 5W30 in the gear case but that's just me.
-
I do think there are better things to run in a chain case then ATF. It works well because it's nice and thin and has good lube properties, but the friction inhibitors in it aren't really designed to protect a chain and sprocket, I know the manuals all say to run it, but a proper chaincase lube is better...
Cases aren't as picky as my thinking about it tho and ATF is cheap and usually helps old seals do there job! As long as oil is in there and it isn't 80weight ur good!

ATF is run in Chevy transfer cases around the world and by the millions. If a person has had the opportunity to open transfer cases there are chains and gears in them.
I run ATF in my chain cases.
