Post by: jerrob419 on March 12, 2015, 11:30:52 PM
What does everyone recommend for a good head gasket for my Kawasaki intruder 440? I've tried winderosa but im not happy with them.

Well I  just spent $80 on Cometic gasket set this week.  unfortunately I am still not running to say if it was just a case of more money than brains.  There are a few bugs at play and I had two failures and a that time I had Winderossa gasket .  So I eliminated that possibility.  Also learned that there is a direction on installing a head gasket on my Invader.  Apparently the steel ring is wider on one side than the other.  And I was told too put the wide side down to the cylinder.  Something about drawing the heat up out of the cylinder.  Not sure if this makes sense, but I followed recommendations since I have my fair share of aluminum ash trays on my work bench.

Intruder head gaskets are just a copper ring. Same gasket on 440 Drifter and Deere Sportfire.

There are some deere NOS ones kicking around

NOS Kawi or Deere are the best.

We prefer the copper gaskets to the aluminum gaskets.  Had our first aluminum blow by this year but have started spraying the aluminum gaskets with Permatex Copper spray.  So far no issues with this approach.
