Is there any markings on the silencers so I know what I have on my Intruder?
I have two with small differences :P
-
Anyone who knows :-\
-
What are the differences? Pictures?
-
I do not have them at home now so I can photograph them :-\
Are they labeled with part numbers?
-
They are not marked with part numbers.
I'm not sure about the Intruders, but I know that the 80' & 81' Invaders had a different pipe than the 78' & 79' Invaders. the newer version is larger and has an extra chamber before the tail pipe. Where as the earlier pipe is smaller and has a longer tail pipe.
-
How in the world shall I know if I have the right muffler on my Intruder :-\ :-\ :-\
-
Post pictures.
-
This is how the silencer looks out that I have mounted at the moment.
I have one more but I can not take the picture right now

Nice sled, the muffler looks like it was meant for that spot. I'd run it.
-
VERY nice sled! Looks like a 78-79 version pipe.
That chain case cover looks familiar. ;)
-
Nice clean sled....well done !

I have the pipe out of my 79 Invader 440 for some fresh paint..and your pipe sure looks identical to mine.
I don't own an Intruder, but I know they used a pipe with a different part #.
With the Intruder having a power peak roughly 1000 RPMs lower than the Invader, I would have thought there would be some visible differences in the length of the various sections of the pipes.
Anyone on here have any pictures of the Intruder pipe?
-
These pipes are a pipe and silencer built into one. Inside of the pipe is a divergent cone (I think this is what they are called), I believe that some of the tuning of the pipe is dictated by where the cone is located inside of the pipe. It's possible that they look identical on the outside, but have the cone in a different location on the inside. The easier way is to find the parts books and compare the part numbers.
-
Yep, they may look identical, externally. I know the exhaust y-pipe has the part # stamped into it. Does the tuned pipe? I sure don't remember ever seeing anything stamped in mine.
It may be tough for Habbeli to ever know for sure. ???
-
I found the part # stamped in my pipe. Habbeli, if you can still see the numbers on your pipes, we can tell you exactly what you have. 8)
78-79-80 Intruders used pipe 39083-3502.
81 Intruder used 39083-3513.
Don't have info for the 82, but I would guess it used 3513, also.

Well it's nice when it's neatly ;) ;D
-
Thank you all for the praise ::)
-
Yes, it would be strange if there were not a number.
I'll see what my numbers are when I go to the cottage where I have them.
I have heard that Intruder be named 39083-3505 and 39083-3506 for the Invader-muffler ???
-
Intruder pipes are 39083-3502 or 3505
Invader pipes are 39083-3501, or 3506...depending on the year of the sled.
There could be a couple other #s out there, too, that I'm not aware of. :D

Whoops, I looked a second time at Parts books.
78-79 Invaders, both 340 and 440 39083-3501
78-79 Intruder 39083-3502
80 Invader 340 39083-3501
80 Invader 440 39083-3506
80 Intruder 39083-3505
81 Invader 440 39178-3505
81 Intruder 39178-3502
That has to be an Intruder pipe on eBay.
