Title: Correct Idle Speed?
Post by: dr1979-340 on October 05, 2015, 08:41:35 AM
The service manual for my 1979 340 Drifter states the idle speed should be 2000 rpm in the specifications.  See page 6.

In the section for adjusting the carburetor it states 2500 rpm.  See page 45.

Does anyone know the correct idle rpm?

Yeah, I see what you mean.
I looked at the 1980 Drifter Service Manual, and it looks like Kawi corrected this....it shows the TA340A motor idle speed as 2000 RPM in both places. The 440 Drifter (TA440B) shows an idle of 2500.
I'm bettin' 2000 is correct for the 340.

A long as it is below the torque converter engagement speed, pick one and go with it!

Thanks guys.  I had it running last weekend and adjusted the idle screw and pilot air screw until I thought it sounded good.  I'll throw the tach gauge on it this weekend to see where I"m at.
