Hello lookin for some info on timing marks there seems to be a factory timing mark on the stator about around the 2 to 3 o'clock area that lines up with the outer case is this where it is supposed to be why I ask just rebuilt another engine where mark was off counter clock wise about quarter off inch would it run like that any reason for it to be that far it's the way I received engine never heard run thanks any help would be great

The mark on the case and stator are a good starting point.

I have seen some that have 2 different marks, mostly for the 4/6 or LTD motors one is used for the dual plug motors, the other for the single plug motors. I have learned to always check the timing mark, or add your own, when you pull it apart.

First on your list to do's after it starts is get a timing light and verify timing. Draft marks on the clutch (TDC, 5 degree BTDC and 10 degree BTDC marks) set up a pointer and verify.
