Things are coming along on it. Things grinded to a halt when I tried to take the clutch off. But once I got it off things moved right along. Blast and repaint, polish it up and slap it back together. Oh ya, buy parts too. :-\

Keep us in the loop as you restore that beast!

Things are moving along, slowly. working on straitening the running boards, pulling stickers and prepping for new stickers. I think I am going to save the serial, date of mfg and certification stickers on the tunnel, even though they are rough. I wonder how good the NOS stickers will hold? Going to repaint the tunnel straps and start re-riveting starting with those.
Things are going slower now my engine came back from the machine shop for my 1982 Toyota Supra. I guess I like stuff from 1982. Hey, doesn't the supra and interceptor have a similar look to them, maybe it is just me.

got the interceptor 550 stickers off the tunnel. cleaning up the scratches then gona re-rivet the steel straps back on. after that i will see how the nos stickers look on it. next would be the rear handle, shield and snow flap. just got a cylinder with an iron sleeve in it.
I am going to try to plastic weld the belly pan. anyone know what it is made of, or have any experience trying?
-
I think the bellypans are ABS, let us know if the welding works. I've done a little welding but only on poly based plastic. We are working at finishing a total restoration of a 81 Invader with a bad pan, went with Image Ent. 2 piece pan it took a lot of work to fit and ended up being a 1 piece in the end. I think someone else is making a 1 piece pan? Keep at her till shes done!!

The other place making 1 piece interceptor pans is arctic restorations in sauk rapids mn

Very COOL!! Has any one used either one?
-
I have one of each, and they are both very nice. The finish of the Interceptor pan is much nicer than that of the Invader pans, but the price reflects that. I have installed a two-piece Invader pan from Image, and disliked it. It was a terrible fit and took all day to make it fit. It does look nice now that its on. I have yet to install either of the new one-piece pans...

Paint is stripped off the tunnel straps and going to blast the front frame soon.
Anyone got any suggestions for what paint to use? Find anything that matches the stock paint? I will strip and paint the steering/dash hoop if i have to, to make everything match.

I used a single stage urethane.... it's "tough" and shines close to a base/clear but without that last "clear" spray step.

FYI the belly pans weld up very well with ABS plastic. The welds are very strong. It also sands well if you don't get it too hot so the welds can be made to look pretty good too.

I'd love to see how the welds turned out... Pics?
