What sealant do you guys use when replacing cylinder base gaskets? I used some Permatex high tack sealer and it dried too quickly and now I just found water leaking from my base gaskets :-/
I have new gaskets on the way but want to be sure to use the right sealer this time... thanks!

I never used anything on the base gaskets

I have used a really thin layer of RTV silicone on base gaskets, Or nothing at all.
What brand of gaskets are you using?
Might your acorn nuts be bottoming out?
This can happen if the studs are not turned into the block all the way.
Good luck and keep us posted

If the surfaces are perfectly clean you don't "need" anything... I like using a very thin layer of 3 bond on all touching surfaces and on the gasket itself... Yamabond or 3bond is really the only stuff I let near my motors... Except some RTV on rubber head gaskets....
I did notice my clymer manual says to run a bit of silicone on the base gaskets, but the manuals aren't exactly perfect!
Just get those surfaces clean and you really have nothing to worry about!
