How deep of snow are you running in?
Does the sled have a tach?

Snow was like 6 to 8 inches deep.It does the same thing on 2 inches of snow(lol).Does have a tach,At 35-40 it is at 7 grand but the needle bounces between 6-7.From idea to 40 mph it pulls great,no misses or anything.Put it on a stand and free spin the track it hits 8 grand about 70 mph real quick ? Wondering if the cdi is to weak.I did notice the back side of cdi has a hole exposing a few wires.thx

I've never driven a 340 Drifter but have over 4000 miles on a 440 Drifter.
I would niot be surprised if that is all its got.

Just checked my Drifter shop manual
top engine RPM 6300-6500. Yes it will rev higher on a stand with no load.
-
Top speed of the Drifter 340 should be 58 mph.

big difference between running on a jack stand and riding through the snow. there is much more of a load with the weight of the sled and driver, plus the drag of going through the snow. The specs in the manual are "Theoretical Speeds" and not actual trail speeds.

Is the ftive belt worn?

Is the ftive belt worn?
New belt made no difference.

But I do have another question.
CDI has 18 wires coming from the box.9(mostly white)wires are capped off.Other 9 wires only a few are hooked up to the motor/coils.Vintage snow shows only 440's with a cdi/external coil setup like mine.

Wondering if the wiring is wrong and will not let it run to top speed ?
