Title: 80' Intruder Brake Replacement
Post by: kawabunga43 on January 02, 2013, 05:39:52 PM
I have a 1980 Intruder that needs the brake pads replaced.  Can anyone give me the step by step instruction to do it.  Thanks........

Ok, maybe not step by step instructions.  But a little help.  No one has changed the pads on their sled before.

If you just look at the brakes you should be able to figure out how to take them off and change the pads. Its really not that hard to do.

We don't change brake pads very often, but I can remember the change out being a little fussy - particularly if you don't want to disassemble the drive train.  The trick is often getting the pads to stay in place while you try to get it bolted back up.  I have resorted to using RTV on the back side of the pads to hold them in place.  I also believe that you will need to be able to slide your brake disk - something that it may or may not want to do depending on the condition of the jackshaft.  I will take a look in the manual to see if there is a step by step guide - Nope, the manual does not seem to have a step by step guide, but it does include a good exploded view of the chaincase and brake caliper.  If you are a supporting member you should be able to check that out in the manuals section of the site.

The Intruder manual says to glue the solid side down. If you look at the brake caliper removal, it touches on pad replacement.
