Hi all. New to forums and Kawasakis. My story goes like this. My brothers brother in law bought this sled new in 1989, used it one season and left it in my Aunts barn. He never came back for it. After about 5 years my aunt and uncle got it out and used it until they blew the motor in it. My uncles a diesel mechanic and pulled the cylinder off it. The ring broke and scored the cylinder. When he got prices to fix it he just put it back in the barn and left it with one cylinder off. I got it out at Christmas and brought it home. I bought another one for motor parts, the wrist pin hole on the connecting rod is rusted and need the cylinder of course. I have the two motors tore down to the crankshaft. I plan to take them to a performance shop to press them apart, change bearings, seals, and 1 connecting rod. After reading these forums it sounds like centre seal won't be required. The bearings look good to me, I thought they would have a little rust on them but they look ok. What would one expect to pay to press two cranks apart and put one back together with bearings and seals? I have this sled shining like new- aluminum looks like chrome, carb cleaned with new fuel lines, gettin excited to get her back together. Will try to post a pic. Sorry for the long winded introduction.
If any ones wondering there's also 2 boa skis and 2scorpions in that barn that might have to come out soon.

if it were me,, i wouldnt worry too much about rust on the rod,,, they use needle bearings...
if anything,, i would clean some of the rust off with a fine emery cloth...
splitting the crank is probably unnecessary & pretty spendy

Depending on where you are located I have a sentimental soft spot for Boa Ski.

Thanks for the warm welcome and replies. If the machined area of the connecting rod is not smooth wont it snooker the needle bearing? I can post a rite side up pic (sorry) when I get home tonite.
I'm in Bolton, Ontario. The sleds are in North Bay Area but there not mine to sell. My Aunts and Uncles are in there seventies and eighties. I don't think they will be using them anytime soon and cousins have no interest.

Yes the rust is in the hole on connecting rod where the wrist pin bearing rides. I ran my dremel through it with a wire wheel on it. I think I will try with emery cloth tonite and test fit the bearing for smoothness. Now to get that pesky clutch off...been trying the water trick on YouTube with no luck...gonna try release all instead of water I think. Anyone know which clutch puller will work?

I've spent over $300 having a crank rebuilt... If you need a new crank, your better off trying to find a good used one.

Yes I have had a price of $500 for a reconditioned one if there available... I bought a second sled for $300 with a motor that ran when squirting fuel in the carb. The wiring harness was also butchered bad off the stator so I wanted to use my original which meant separating the block. That cranks probable ok also but bought the sled for the good cylinder.

Can you use the crank out of the parts sled?
Once you have the clutch off it is easy to switch cranks.

Yes I think the parts sled crank is good also. I used a little emery cloth and cleaned up the machined surface. Here is a picture of both of them. The one I just cleaned is in front. I tried a bearing in there and it seems fine. Still lots of chrome showing but some rust also.

Thanks for lookin out for me. I imagine shipping that weight to Canada would be pretty large. I was going to try mine again. Just trying to get an order ready for royal distributing. I recently became a member of that site also.

Winners circle is a good place to buy old sled parts.
I've had cranks shipped to me from the U.S. not as pricey as you might think.
I would use the crank from the parts sled if I were you. The other one would be fine in a sled that will not get used much.

Yes the parts crank looks good. I think I should take the good advice and use it.I can't get the winners circle page to load but glad to know there's an alternative to royal distributing. My parts should be here in 2 to 4 days and I can get busy reassembling.
Not much snow around here, hopefully that will change soon.
Is all the old information from the old site just lost or is there a way to access it?
