I was thinking of replacing the factory air box with a k&n style filter. would it be ok to do that or could that cause problems

You could do that, alot of people are doing it. You will just have to re-jet it to whatever its supposed to be with the air filters on

Im not too familiar with the air-filters. I was gonna put some on mine, but I made my own so i didnt need to re-jet it. Uni-Filters sometimes you wont have to re-jet depending on most sleds, the k&n's you have to re-jet im pretty sure. There maybe more helpful people on here than me.

The powerjets will not work correctly with the K&n filters

The single pods tend to let more air in which throws off the air/fuel mix.   The stock airbox has a built in restriction and also tends to warm up the air a bit to combat ice forming.
