I am sure this has been hashed over a few times but as I am brand new to this site and to Kawasaki snowmobiles I have a question about the complete removal of the oil pump on a 1980 intruder 440. the point I see coming up is no oil getting to the center seal. The oil injection lines feed directly into the intake and mixed with the fuel there. a pre mix flowing directly into the intake would circulate into the crank cases the same would it not. I am rebuilding this engine and it does not have any gears for the pump so I was just going to run the pre mix. are there any guys here that run a pre mix sled.

Welcome to the site!! Intruder bottom ends do not oil the center bearing so you can remove the oil injection if you enjoy mixing you gas. Most will leave it alone and run the injection since they seldom fail.

I believe the oil injection to be very reliable and convenient. I hate mixing gas and oil. We have multiple sleds and multiple more parts sleds and what I find 8 times out of 10 is that a crank seal fails resulting in a failed piston (usually the mag side). The owner however assumes that the piston failed because of lack of oil and concludes the injection system failed. They then disconnect the oil pump and pre-mix fuel only to have it happen again. Then they sit for a few years before I pick them up. 5 times out of 10 they have been sitting with the carbs off - which is the other mantra of the non-running sled, since they solved the oil problem it must "just need to have the carbs adjusted" - and the crankcase has filled with water and ruined the crank bearings. I say keep the injectors.

I would agree 100%.
The oil injection system works well. I would keep it.
There are lots of us that have spare gears if you want them.

Thank you to everyone for your input It is much appreciated. This Intruder is my first Kawasaki build and it is a little rough. A good one to get my feet wet so to speak with Kawasaki sleds. I will run this one with out the pre mix and as I am sure everyone here does, I will be on the hunt for a much better one to put on the snow. I am glad to hear the injection system is solid. Thanks for the offer of available gears as well, it is appreciated. I look forward to getting to know the site and these sleds a lot more

During the day today i remembered too that the carbs work much better with gasoline only. When mixed with gas, the oil tends to gum things up when it sits in the carbs for any period of time. It seems to particularly affect the idle circuit.

It also makes the engine run slightly leaner, being that you are now flowing the oil through the jets along with the gas instead of injecting it.
