Title: Kawasaki Interceptor Cover
Post by: 72SSRS on March 30, 2016, 03:08:37 PM
Hello fellow Interceptor Owners.  I am a proud owner of a 550 Interceptor for a few months now and I am looking for a factory cover for it.  I do realize how scarce they are. But I am still gone try and find one.  I would like to at least see a picture of one and if I cant find one I would get one made eventually because I want a cover that looks factory.  Nothing beats factory tho.  Any help greatly appreciated .   Thanks Chris

I don't believe Kawasaki ever made a cover for the Interceptor...   :-\

Chris. Did you ever find some NOS Interceptor carb diaphragms? I bought my Interceptor from the original owner. It came with a cover. The cover is form fitting but appears to be aftermarket as it is all black with orange piping. I have never seen a real Kawasaki Interceptor cover but they may have been available?
In 1973 I bought a 1972 Polaris Starfire racer. I ordered a factory cover for it from Polaris. It came with Polaris TX Starfire printed right on it. To this day I have never seen another. So who knows about the factory Interceptor cover?

Never seen a 550 oem cover myself or have heard of someone seeing one for that matter.....

Chris, if you ever find one, make sure to let us all know and send a picture...

Regards

Thanks Guys...  Yea they did make them but I was told they made less of them than the sleds because it didn't come with the sled.  So were in trouble lol .  People had to order or buy one off the shelf at the dealer but as we know they stop making them way too soon BUMMER. http://kawasakitrax.com/kawiforum/Smileys/default/cry.gif   They look just like the invader cover just shorter to fit the Interceptor.  I was told they did not say interceptor on them. Just Kawasaki like the rest.   Beleave me as some have seen my ad on vintage I have been looking hard by putting it on there over and over and over and I will continue to do so but you have to be like that to find rare things. My Interceptor came with a old aftermarket cover and it fits great so if need to be I will pattern off it and make a few.  But I like original stuff that's why I was looking for carb kits too.  So in the future here if I have to make one for me and my buddy in maine.   I will def post a picture and see if you all like and maybe would want one made. Now as far as carb kits I have not found anybody to sell them YET. But they are out there for sure.  Thanks Guys  It will be fun chatting with you guys.    http://kawasakitrax.com/kawiforum/Smileys/default/smiley.gif

The Interceptor cover subject has come up on here before.   I can't seem to find the thread, but I recall the consensus was that Kawasaki never made a cover specifically for the 550.  I have never seen a picture of one, or could find a part number for one.

I hope I'm wrong!  I'd definitely be interested in a repop cover for my 550!  :)  Keep us posted on your search.

Gixxer6 I will Definitely keep you all posted. I am doing my to best to get an original one and wont stop trying but still plan on making a couple repops.  Got patterns to go by but me and my friend just haven't decided which way to go.  :)  Thanks Chris  http://kawasakitrax.com/kawiforum/Smileys/default/smiley.gif

Maybe interested in one my self, pics would be great. I had posted earlier about covers, my books say numbers are all the same, but the end letter was different. I have 4 covers here, some fit the 550 better than others, but don"t know witch is witch, cause tags are tore off.

The add is still up on VS classifieds???  as of 11 AM EST today.
I tried at 5:40 AM Eastern Time Sunday morning.....sent email. Looks like add was posted around 4:40 AM.
 Never got a response....
Any of you called the guy and know it has been sold?

Hmmm. Did any of you wonder a little bit about this?
Maybe it's just my suspicious brain.
In my email expressing my interest to buy, I asked a couple questions...nicely ::)
What I was really thinking was...."What's in the box!??".....yes, he posted a nice picture of the box with the correct Kawasaki part label.....but he said "stored for 20 years"
Well, these sleds and covers were produced 35 something years ago. Did somebody use it for 10 years...then put it in "the box?"
Is the cover full of holes from mice living in "the box?"
Where's a picture of the COVER????what's in the box??!!   ???

Sorry for the rant....I do hope it turned out well for someone.

Sorry guys this has nothing to do with an Interceptor BUT it does have to do with a rare find on a cover ;) I just happened to be browsing through EBAY and found a new, factory, in the box, never been installed cover for my 73 Gilson 435 :o  I was the only bidder and got it for the opening bid price!  8)  I know Interceptor stuff is rare but I never see anything listed for a Gilson.... :'(  So you just never know what might show up ;)

Wow, Gilson435, there can't be too many original covers like that left in the world. 8)
I trust the eBay ad had a little more information than this recent ad for the Kawasaki cover.
That still slays me a little bit....
I don't own a Corvette (wish I did), but it would be like me posting an ad on Craiglist:

1963 Corvette split window  StingRay.....

And then taking a picture of my garage.....with the door closed...LOL

Maybe I will miss out on some great deals....but I needed a LITTLE more information. :)
Congrats on finding that cover!

I gotta say i'm happy he sold it to someone else.......   ;)

Gilson, happy to hear about your find...that is indeed a very rare item.....sometimes things happen for the right reason...well done !!

PS Today, I wrote a long..... cry from the heart e-mail..... to Kawasaki Canada in hope of getting some info on 550 covers, the part number and the letter following it....will let everyone one know if they respond........Take care..

I finally got around to digging out my OEM covers.  I forgot that I had them until this thread popped up.  I have 2 used covers, one is blue with white lettering, the other is black and has LTD printed on it.  I believe the blue one is for a 78 Intruder.  The LTD cover is in excellent condition, no rips, very little if any fading.  The blues cover is in pretty bad shape, faded and torn.  I really have no use for these, so if someone is interested in them let me know.

As I remember, there was no Interceptor cover per-say, they just sold you that blue nylon one that fit, however, when I had my last one, I purchased that aftermarket custom fit one(don't remember who makes them) and it fit like it was made for it.

Wasn't the SU1002-J  part number for a Drifter....?

Also, did you receive the label with the J crossed out and replaced with a T from the factory ?

I,M trying to list all the SU1002 covers that were made .............

The pictures can't be to large or it won't work.  Try resizing so the full size picture just fits the screen.  It would be fun to see a picture of the cover!

Well I finally did find my own Interceptor cover and even better it was NOS still in the box as you can tell by the wrinkles in the cover taken out of box just for a few pictures.  I know hard to beleave  but it was.  I had said way back I would share pictures of one if I ever got my hands on one.  And I want to thank the couple guys who helped me get this rare piece. Thanks you two!!   I uploaded a couple pictures for you all to look at and enjoy seeing.

The plan is someday to do that.  :)  I will definitely post on here if I do get that done someday. To many projects going on and not enough time in a day. But I definitely will post them if and when that happens...
