Title: Intruder 440 -79 Dragracing
Post by: Habbeli on October 31, 2012, 07:26:48 PM
If anyone is interested in my project there is to read here. ( Click on the link )
I can not translate the text into English, but the pictures say well most of the time.
The pictures start when I picked the scooter and up until today. One thing you are probably thinking, why the scoter is on a sled, the chain jumped off the chain tensioner was too long when I changed gears, now it is fixed  :D

http://retroskoter.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=10838

This is Google translated so I hope you understand  :P ::) ;D ;D ;D

Nice sled!  Google translator did a wonderusfully job...

I'm a little confused by the 4/6 topend on the Intruder lower end.

4/6 topend? Must be lost in translation, in the pictures that's the intruder top end I believe, and LTD 4/6 top end is liquid looks like an invader hole...

Are intruder pistons always like those?

This winter I'll try to remove the lamp housing and cover it with a thin piece of wood to make it look like an invader with lowered light
Does anyone know how to remove the lamp housing easiest ? ::)

How many kawi's are over there man?

I checked with our transport department and so here it is:
Model     -    How many

Interceptor  = 4
Invader LTD = 32
Invader        = 86
Intruder       = 116
Drifter          = 160

I have a friend who has a machine of each variety, and his Invader LTD has just gone 86 miles. It stands in his bedroom  ;D ;D ;D

Is there anyone who can answer how big pistons in a Intruder/Invader-engine should be at the top?
Because I have problems with my engine sounds like a rock crusher despite new pistons and cylinders are fine.
When I study my new pistons as they have become smooth and shiny between the piston rings on the exhaust side. I suspect that this is where the sound occurs  :-\
Crankshaft is restored and as good as new  ;D
Coating of the cylinders are also like new  ;D

I've Probably found the problem in the engine now.
I've let turning on the tops for racing and it was probably a bit too much racing  :P ;D ;D ;D

Unfortunately, it was not the tops that was the problem, it's the pistons that do not measure up  :-\

Is there anyone who has had problems with the chain cogs in the chain case?
I have everything new except for the lower pinion and has switched gears for drag racing, 19-39, green spring that I cut to 2.50-in. Nothing helps .....  :'(

And here is the final against a Yamaha V-Max 540  ;D
you hear me pumping gas when the rap over in the chain case....
I talked to a friend who also has a Kawasaki (Invader) and he had the same problem with rapping chain before he rebuilt the chain case and put some Arctic-Cat parts in it with tension screw like Polaris  ::)

As long as the chain lenght is correct, the pucks are in good shape and ATF transmission fluid to the correct level I've not heard of one failing.  Nice sled!

It keeps up the track so it does not take into boggie

78/79 rear suspension brackets had welded hoops on top,1980 had small brackets with wheels so i see what you are trying to do.....just seems odd you have c case problems and i hardly ever see that, even with 550s....

I had that problem what I did was put in a aftermarket one( from the outside inward)Arctic Cat style (swinging roller arm) in the chain case took the stock stuff out (pucks with springs). One thing you should look for is alinement take a straight edge from gear to gear if the chain binds then your not aligned correctly. Most gears have a offset on them make sure you have them in correctly also some chains are not the same

Okay, I'm about to mount the sprocket and chain where I do not need a tensioner at all. The gears are aligned to 100% :-)

Is this the part you used- Western Power Sports part number 54-3002? It's on page 920 of the 2014 Snowmobile catalog which you can see online. I'm going to put one on mine this summer. I also use a 13 wide top sprocket and 13 wide chain for the extra strength. You have to shim the lower sprocket to align it or center the chain on the lower sprocket.

Hell if it cogs over now   >:(
This required no tensioners...
