440 invader barn find
« on: October 24, 2016, 02:24:17 PM »
I found a 44 invader. It looks to be all there, and it fired up when I put some mixed gas in the plug holes. The guy tells me it ran when parked 6 years ago. He states there is a issue with the brakes. One 2 inch tear in seat that is sewn up. If I can buy this, he wants 450, can I make anything on a resale? Located in western wi. wind shield is good. I believe it to be a 79, but some nums are scratched bad on the id plate

 Welcome to KawasakiTrax!
Where I live in Northern Indiana, I would have to say that there is little opportunity to resell that Invader for much more than $ 450 bucks. I still see them fairly often on Craigslist. Unless it is near mint condition, it is unlikely to get more than $ 600.
The possibility of parting it out on eBay or Vintage sled sites might yield a few more bucks....but that takes time and can be a hassle.
If your Invader still has the original hood....the inside of the 1978 models was a rough fiberglass finish. The 1979 models changed to a smooth, gray inner finish.
The rear skid also changed slightly from '78 to '79....the '79s have a cam shaped assembly attached to the front of the rails that engages the front springs.
75 SnoJet Astro SS, 79 Kawasaki Invader 440 (two of them), 81 Scorpion Sidewinder, 82 Blizzard 9500, 83 Yamaha Vmax 540, 97 MXZ 670....and holding...for now.

I sold a nice 79 440 Invader a couple years ago for $700.  I would describe it as a real nice rider, it wasn't perfect, but was mechanically sound, ready to ride with studs and carbides.  You might be able to make a few bucks fixing it up and reselling it.  But if it's been sitting for 6 years, it'll likely need lots of work to get it running properly (crank seals, fuel lines, carbs cleaned, recoil rope, freeing up suspension shafts, slides, ski wear bars, etc.).  It's not a bad deal if you're looking for a project sled for yourself, or if this one is in immaculate condition, but I wouldn't suggest buying it to flip.   Good luck!
