putting invader stator and coils back on

ok so i just received my new stator and flywheel, now i just need to figure out if i need to time this this when putting it back together. its a 1980 440 invader motor, new stator plate, coils, cdi. do i have to time the motor to t.d.c. before reinstalling the flywheel, im good with 4-strokes and diesels but two strokes are kinda new to me. i just dont want to ruin anything or keep having to pull it all off to re-do it. any help is greatly appreciated. maybe a step by step from someone...??

 you should be able to line the timming mark on the stator with the crankcase and be good to go.

 Clear as mud?

i marked where the stator plate was but the flywheel sheered the woodruff key... so do i need to make sure the crank and or one of the pistons is at t.d.c. before putting the flywheel back on...?? or just mount the stator plate, throw the flywheel on and give her a yank.

ok so i put everything back together, bolted up the vm38's because i could never get the factory powerjets to stop flooding the motor at idle, gave it one pull and she fired right up, adjusted the idle, and air screw and now this thing has never ran better. thank you for those who replied. also if anyone is interested in the powerjet carbs let me know.
