Am I gonna burn the paint? LTD
« on: December 17, 2013, 04:20:31 PM »
After having the engine rebuilt, I put about 10 miles on my 81 LTD Saturday.  Didn't push it for break in purposes and added about a pint of oil to the 5 gallon gas added, again, for break in.     Ran fine, just a little bog at start.   However, there is no insulation inside the hood and those dual exhaust pipes are VERY close to the hood.   The hood was very hot to the touch and I'm afraid it was close to burning the paint. Couldn't hold my hand on the hood.   Any thoughts?    Is this an LTD problem because of the dual exhaust?  Thanks,

Winter Thunder

Get some heat reflective tape and put on the underside of the hood above the pipes.  On sleds I've had with pipes I've used it and it works good.  I get it from Dennis Kirk catalog.

Today I found some local, at Napa.      They sell a piece 12x12 inches for $15.   They also have it larger.   Its in their ATV catalog.
