Progress on the new skid
« on: September 09, 2015, 07:13:26 PM »
One of the projects in the queue is rebuilding a few sets of skid frames.  Most of the ones that we have acquired sat out of doors for too long before we managed to rescue them.  After the tedious process of dis-assembly, quite a bit of bead blasting, and a few cans of paint we finally have one in assembly.

Rebuilding skids is one of my least favorite things to do.  If it wasn't for those darn cross shafts sticking, it wouldn't be so bad.  Looks like good progress!

Today we fabed up our own homemade shock spring compression tool.  Any resemblance to other shock spring compression tools on the market is purely coincidental.  But this got us to the point of adding the center wheels to the skid.  After doing so, we see that the hyfax sits up off the table a good quarter inch at the center wheels.  So, here is my question.  Was this intended by Kawasaki or do I somehow have the wrong diameter center wheels?

I think you are good to go. I happen to have my skid out to clean it up and repaint part of it
There is a definite gap all along the bottom of the rail, supported by the wheels.
Never mind the blue rear wheel.....I did that MANY years ago when a lot of the new sleds were coming out with colored idler wheels. I remember having a can of Chevy blue engine enamel on the shelf....left over from some project or another.
It has held up pretty well over the years, but I think I'm going to return to the stock, black look now, since I want to keep the Invader mostly a nice, stock survivor.
Kinda hate to remove the blue paint.....best performance modification I ever made.....added at least 10 mph to the top speed. 8) ;) ;)

The hyfax on my skid are slightly worn, but I have a spare set of brand new hyfax.
Directly below the idler wheels, these hyfax are virtually the same dimension as my brand new ones.....The wheels are doing their job.
And, there is about a 1/4 inch gap below them.
