drain the tank or stabilizer for storage?
« on: January 28, 2013, 02:41:41 PM »
So I got my 79 Intruder running well after 25 years in the barn. Thanks all for all your help.
I know we are just getting started but been thinking about the last tank full.

What do you guys do with the fuel system for out of season storage.  Is the stabil stuff good enough?  If I drain the tank, fuel pump and carbs will the air dry out the rubber parts?

I used to just use seafoam in the tank and run it a bit to get it into the carbs but gas these days does not hold up so i would rain it all and clean the carbs. Once you do that next winter you just have to add gas and go.

It is the beauty of the oil injection pump.

Syphon the tank empty and put that fuel right into your automobile.  Run the carbs until the motor shuts down.

I use Seafoam, and haven't had any issues.  I also try to run my sleds once in the middle of the summer.

I talked to our local sled shop mechanic (he's been the for 15 years), he told me that he does alot of carb cleaning on customers sleds, and he always ask them what they use in thier gas.  The sleds that use Seafoam always look much better than that of sleds that use stabil...

A little seafoam and I NEVER put the last pint or so of gas from the can into the gas tank unless you have a special funnel to filter out the water.  It is good to sometimes siphon the gas tank empty.

Seafoam!!!  I am fortunate to have the time and space to start them every other month or so in the off season. I let them idle for a little bit and walk out of the storage shed smelling of 2 stroke.
