Intruder Carb Repair Kit Help
« on: February 18, 2013, 12:27:36 PM »
Does anyone know which carb repair kit ( gaskets, o-rings,etc )fits the VM32 carbs? I have seen a universal kit that covers the VM30-VM34 and another kit that says for VM32 Spigot type.

I also have noticed in the repair manual that there is a left and right carb, is left or right as you are sitting on the sled or facing the sled?

Left is when you are sitting on the sled. Left is the clutch or pto side, right is the mag side

I always just buy the parts I need for a carb. The kits will contain parts you do not need and not contain all the parts you might need.

When we got the first Invader I convinced myself that I needed all the carb parts.  The guy at Carb Parts Warehouse said that the gaskets on the bowls almost never go bad.  He was right, we are still running the original bowl gaskets and the new ones that I bought are still sitting in the box.  And for that matter, so long as you keep the carbs clean, the jets almost never need to be replaced.

Wanting to be sure that they run properly, replace the three jets and replace the needle and seat.  Take out the needle jet and make sure that the reservoir is clean and clear.  Clean out all the air passages with a torch tip cleaner, carb cleaner, and compressed air making sure to wear protective eyeware to keep gook and carb cleaner out of the eyes.

Take a look at your needle & seat.  The universal kit is for the style with the retainer spring on the needle & seat.  There is also a style without the retainer spring.  It's best to get genuine Mikuni needle/seats if possible (as opposed to aftermarket China/Taiwan versions), but there is a big price jump.  I have both aftermarket & genuine Mikuni versions in my store.  I also have the universal kits (which are aftermarket) and other loose parts.
