1979 Invader air box
« on: February 22, 2015, 11:06:37 PM »
Hi guy's ... Just picked a 79 440 barn find. Got a great deal ... SO far...  Whats inside the factory air boxes? As you know they are riveted and eyeballing it, it just looks like a screen or cylinder?  Was there any type of wading in there?  Not sure if i need take the time and drill it apart.  Seems like something may be rattling around inside as well.

There are a couple air tubes and a screen to keep things from getting sucked into the motor.  Very little in there to restrickt air flow.

Any trick or procedure to clean out? I've blown air thru and a type of horse hair wading came out ... i would assume a nest ... maybe i'll submerge it before i pull it apart.

Also whats in the full tank for lines?  Looks like PO had done somewhat of a storage routine on the sled before hand so  Its nice and dry and clean.  I pulled out one weighted pick up line ( no screen/ filter) . There is another grommeted hole beside that with no line attached. is that the sight gauge return line ?

That one doesn't look too bad....at least it's not packed full of "mouse nest material" ;D ;D
After you clean it up, you can use pop rivets to put it back together.....or....
I used some stainless machine screws (1/4 inch maybe ??) along with some nylon insert nuts to hold the assembly together. Then it's not near the pain if you want to pop it apart again in the future.
75 SnoJet Astro SS, 79 Kawasaki Invader 440 (two of them), 81 Scorpion Sidewinder, 82 Blizzard 9500, 83 Yamaha Vmax 540, 97 MXZ 670....and holding...for now.
