Another odd thing I noticed is that the black strip around the windshield is missing.  It looks like it was never there to begin with.

I think the vent thing is just going to keep you up at night!  I did find one interesting fact...   the 78' Intriguer (which is essentially the same sled) has the hood vents facing from left to right!  The Intriguer hood had the headlight on top of the hood  instead of integrated like the Drifter.  I dunno.  Maybe the assembly crew cut the holes thinking the sled was an Intriguer!  lol :o.  In any event, it is interesting, but I suspect just a factory "glitch". :o  NOW...  if you had a Drifter that had a factory installed 530...   now THAT would be something else! 8)

Also, check out the vents on my 79' DES 440 Drifter...   there are vents in front of the windshield too!

Yeah, MIke I might have to change it to 3kaws.  Ha Ha.

I'm with you on that Tory....I think its a factory glitch.  I'll ask the guy on Saturday when I pick it up if he knows the history of the sled.  After briefly speaking with him he didn't seem to know much about it as it a "bar deal" from a guy that needed some quick cash.  Ha Ha.  He is an Arctic Cat guy anyways.

3kaws would not be fair...   as it will only last a short time!  You would have to keep revising your user name! ;D

Mystery not solved.  I picked up the sled on Saturday.  It is a 1980 440 Drifter with what I believe to be a factory mistake hood on it.

The 1980 Drifter hoods were a completely different color and different decals.

Upon further review, I think it is a odd ball.  It appears to be a Drifter hood with 1979 340 Drifter decals and INVITER on it.  I looked at the Inviter hood from the parts list and it doesn't match that either.  Strange.  Who knows why they had a hood like that??

John Deere 82??

78 Intriger  TA440B-A201
79 Drifter    TA440B-B201
80 Drifter    TA440B-C201
81  Drifter   TA440C-D203  oil injected

I have an TA440B-F202 fanner that I picked up HayDays a few years back.  It has the Kawi tag, other than that it has a "440" sticker between the spark plugs.

LOL...   engine came from a 78' Intriguer!  The second Intriguer I have does show the correct engine tag for that model.  I guess it doesn't really matter >>>>>   the cyls and heads are the same upon inspection. ;)
