I will see it in person here in a few days.  The story I got was that it was bought awhile back from an old dealer.  The dealer said that it was received from Kawasaki as a 1982, but when they opened the crate they immediately noticed the different decals.  The current owner says that it has spent many years as a race sled and that someone has modified it for racing.  Different gauges, bars, modified gas tank, Aaen pipes, etc.  He said other than the decals, it was exactly the same as an 82.

The most interesting part for me is that it has a serial number of 10.  And I recently spoke to another guy here in Michigan that owns #10, and it is a standard 82 Interceptor.  Two #10's!!!

I spoke to some of the guys from Kawasaki to at Waconia they to were surprised about any talk of a 550 being a triple nothing of any kind out of R & D from Shakopee Minnesota. Some knew of the triple Kawasaki from 1972 era but that was a 650cc made for Tom Marks of Arctic Cat.

Two number #10's sure is interesting!  Please take some more pictures and go into more detail if you find any other differences from the 82 to 83 besides decals.

THANKS!

A few things that I noticed:

It has what appears to be a factory installed 121" track.  The track looks like an OEM Kawasaki track, the rail extensions were a stamped steel and were riveted in place, and the tunnel extension also appeared to be factory installed with stamped and riveted parts.

The tunnel decals looked like standard 82 decals with large silver and red decals on top of them.  These covered up the 82 decal red and silver pin stripes, except for one spot where the silver decal was pealed back where you could clearly see the red 82 pinstripe.  All decals looked to be installed at the factory as the tunnel rivets were over top of all decals.

The back and middle bogie wheels are different, they looked like lightweight Kawasaki parts.  There were only 3 back wheels instead of the standard 4 that was used in 82.

The ski's looked slightly different as well, there were reinforcement strips along the sides.  This is the only difference in the skis that I could see.  They were the round loop style, with the standard short leaf springs, and did not have the LTD style reinforcements.

Other than the obvious modifications that someone did to make it a drag sled, everything else appeared to be the same as the 82's.

He was not interested in selling it.  :(  But he has already gathered most of the parts required to put it back to stock.  Well mostly...he owns a performance shop and has plans to port it and make it go FAST.  At least it will look stock.   :)
