"Hyfax Savers" Mod and more!
« on: December 20, 2012, 08:53:29 PM »
In Summer 2011, I started to tackle a problem of my Hyfax wearing through within about 300 miles.  I had found seven clips that were wearing thin and starting to crack...so I ended replacing those...what a PITA!!  I ended up doing a full restore on the rear skid also...

Freshly cleaned up and painted swing arms / parts
New swing arm bushings
New slide strips - for the rear swing arms
New hyfax, of course!
Good bearings repacked with grease
Two bearings replaced - bad seals
New Rear Axle Spacers - old ones had to be split and removed.
Added grease zerks for the two swing arm pivot shafts
AND some fabrication of "hyfax saver" wheels (I'm greatly appreciative of my brother in law for the awesome machining!)   :D

I designed a couple blocks that would offset the future bogie wheels' axle bolts of a determined size of bogie wheels.  The bogie wheel rides in the path of the drive sprockets and is a small enough diameter to remain out of the way when the suspension moves...and still get hyfax on.  I've only put one season on them (last season) but they barely got any use with the pitiful amount of snow we got.   >:(

Currently I'm working on replacing the old track with a new camoplast one.  Can't imagine how many hours I'd waste replacing all of the clips!

Sorry about the large pictures....you might have to zoom out to 75% in your browser if running 768x1024.

Thanks!  I haven't really put many miles on them yet but hope to this coming weekend.

Well the old sled is ready to ride!  I got a little excited and posted a couple videos on youtube...
